Well, SA hasn’t had a case in many months. Then it jumped incoming traveller quarantine. So they decided – stupidly of course – to lock down the entire state for a week. But in about a week, I would expect case numbers to drop back to zero.
Short, sharp lockdowns when the numbers are low probably will work. We will know in the next few days.
The Vic lockdown was much worse.
Please keep in mind, there are some very draconian laws in the US. Check out PA for exhibit A.
Oz is almost virus free – no more than a handful of cases a day. The loss of freedom and the economic hit for doing it have been extreme. But it is the same world wide, although the US, Europe, etc are not virus free. I fought hard against it, and we have had some success.
But this bodes very poorly for the world.
I think the severity of Lockdown Downunder has everything to do with the Crown and especially proximity to China and virtually zero to do with virus lethality.

The issue here is positive tests vs. actual infection. Don’t forget that in Tanzania they tested a goat and a papaya, and both came back positive for the Covid. How many actual, sick, in ICU and dead are there? Hard to get those numbers isn’t it. Claiming a rise in infections due to more positive test numbers is rather….weak.
