Global food prices have never risen so fast and have never been so high, and as have detailed multiple times in recent months (as this is not simply a one-month, ‘blame it on Putin’ crisis), most recently here, the pieces are in place for some serious tears to form in the social fabric of many nations.
While food prices may be generally seen as an emerging market problem, they will have an effect on developed markets too, something we will see in the upcoming French election.
And as the following table from Bloomberg Economics shows, while Pakistan is already in the midst of a political crisis and Egypt is already coming under financial pressure (along with Peru and Sri Lanka), the surge in food prices is also adding to problems in the developed world.
Nigeria, India, Colombia, Philippines, and Turkey all bear watching, along with Russia…
In fact, as PeakProsperity’s Chris Martenson details below, the inflation riots have begun. Peru and Sri Lanka both are experiencing violence as inflation spirals the prices of basic necessities higher and higher.

Living in the city is akin to skydiving. If you understand the associated risks and can live with the possibility of catastrophic endings in order to get that thrill, more power to you. What you cannot do is pretend that outcomes in urban v. rural lifestyles are commensurate when things fall apart. And they do.
Most people that live in the cities barely have any food in storage. I know those kind of people, they eat out almost every night. Suburban people maybe have a few days worth. As far as water goes, they usually drink bottled water as their tap water is flouride/chlorine filled nastiness. I doubt that have enough water to last a few days.
Problem is us prepared rural folk shouldn’t count those people out as dead. I have heard many make comments along the lines of “we will just go steal food and water”. At that point do you call them food riots or a full blown food war? I know one thing, if this country really does run out of food, I fear the bloodshed is going to be horrible.
Remember they’ll be coming in hungry and thirsty. And vaxxed. In electric cars.

Thats our plan. We are going to bunker down. Got a good community of like minded preppers. We will all be taking shifts guarding the entrances to our town road. We plan to barricade it off both sides. Those that come through the woods will be pretty daring its dense. I am surrounded by water as well. Only one real way to get into my property and there are plenty of warning signals and areas to shoot down range.

Well this has been my regular sleep pattern for about 25 years so I;m pretty sure I can maintain that. You seem to think your nam experience will be the same here. HUGE differences, won’t be anywhere near the same.
For one the ‘army’ you expect will only be within 20 – 50 miles from the nearest LARGE city, at most. There will be no leadership, it’ll be mobs. Mobs are easy to see and people will group to repel them as well.
They won’t have grenades, rocket launchers and automatic weapons. At best a few will have some rifles but mostly small arms and blunt weaponry. THEY will be the invaders and the rural folks are on home turf and KNOW that lay of the land.
They won’t have the logistical support behind them. There won’t be fuel, food and ammo trucks following them. They’ll be poorly equipped marauders good for one or two day away from the city. They won’t have the supplies for anything more.
The police will not be helping them or anyone and MANY in the military won’t be taking arms against they own people. Leaving only the high heel, lipstick special services to enforce marshall law.
