I read the Apocalypse, and some very compelling prophecies (Catholic) of the future. The prophecies suggest that 2/3rds to 3/4trs of the people on earth will end up dying, from civil unrest, wars, famines, natural disasters, and divine interventions.
I always thought that was overkill, too much, and (not to argue with God) didn’t understand.
