In every country of the Western world freedom and civil liberty are being destroyed by governments, none of which represents the people. One of America’s last remaining journalists, Glenn Greenwald, sees hope that people are catching on and the process can be stopped. My fear is that Western peoples are too weak and uninvolved to reclaim their freedom and that they will accept tyranny with minimal opposition, thus committing all future generations to life under tyranny. In contrast, the elite are determined and have demonstrated the power to discredit, to remove, and, it seems, to indict an elected President of the United States who attempted to represent the people against the elite. Moreover, with control of the media, the elite were successful in turning Donald Trump into a hate figure for roughly half of the US population. The same will happen to anyone who attempts to restore government accountable to law, the Constitution, and the people.
Perhaps the most important lesson in Greenwald’s report, essentially a history of the development of the national security police state in the 21st century, is that no President regardless of political party or ideology, neither Bush nor Trump, Obama nor Biden, can refuse legislation that builds a police state in the name of national security. Those Democrats who once opposed police state measures now favor them because they are useful in getting rid of Donald Trump. In Congress, Republican patriots and leftwing Democrats rush to the support of legislation that destroys their own freedom and turns the US Constitution into a dead letter document.

Glenn Greenwald is a rare honest media voice of our time. Edward Snowden understood this and entrusted Greenwald with the documents that proved the Nazi National Security Agency was spying on all Americans in violation both of law and the US Constitution. It was Snowden who was punished for telling us the truth about how far we were down the road to tyranny. The NSA’s crimes were defended and covered up by the Corporate Media. Congress and the White House did nothing to stop the NSA’s disregard for law and the US Constitution. Indeed, they facilitated the NSA’s transgressions.

Greenwald, of course, is not perfect. In his transgender section at the end, he doesn’t point out the discrimination inherent in permitting women’s colleges but not men’s colleges, and he doesn’t note that women are permitted women’s spaces but men are not permitted men’s spaces. Boy Scouts must have female members, and pro-football locker rooms are open to female reporters. The real discrimination in American society is against men, especially white heterosexual men.

PCR touches on an important – and overlooked, aspect of the ‘classic liberal’ scions of the New Truth like Greenwald who have failed to keep pace with the long march leftward of their institutional betters and are now lionized by the long-oppressed dirt-people as ‘independent’ torch bearers:
the Truth they joust in alt-media to protect is still RELATIVE to the manufactured moral imperative guarded by the same nodes of power as the intrusions upon liberty they indict.
The government lies propagated by the converged fourth estate and the civil liberties being destroyed by government are a matter of pacing, context, nuance, who/whom.
Stripped of the qualifiers, we can see that the good fight is often over ‘a bridge too far’, rather than the truth behind the war on Truth itself.
Of course, nuance matters but in order to call into question an intrusion upon one liberty while still claiming the moral imperative to plow under some other liberty in the way of Progress, he has to acknowledge the same power as legitimate that he is supposedly delegitimizing.
That the now independent journalists just happen to benefit from some prior infringement of others natural rights – or moral majority as a function of heritage culture, is just one of the many slippery inconveniences that not just gets overshadowed by their clever jousting, but actually accrues legitimacy to their voice.
Because even the dirt people have become so conditioned to accrue authority to those occupying some official identity on the totem of progress that the things being said by your average straight white man on a barstool 20 years ago are ground-breaking philosophical arguments for individual liberty in current year.
You can file under ‘the perfect is the enemy of the good’, but you can just as easily point to the relativism and clever moral time-travelling as a big part of how we got here.
Greenwald’s journalistic objectivities fall short due to his homosexuality. Your other points are right on as usual. We are on an unstoppable downward spiral which no president, congress or apathetic citizenry can halt. Any who try face incarceration or death at the hands of the unknown cabal ruling this planet behind the curtain. We know some of their names but any conjectures to identify others is deemed conspiracy theories or balderdash. This will continue unabated until our former republic fades away into nothingness. Like Chief Joseph lamented “It’s a good day to die”.
Not just being a fag, but being a jew and the connection to Snowden.
Joseph did not say that. Crazy Horse allegedly did. Joseph said ” From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever” Perhaps more appropriate for the American people today, and their indifference to tyranny.
