I thought the silhouette might be facing forward not away, but after a second look, I’m not too sure. The back of the helmet comes to the base of the neck and that seems to be facing the viewer so I believe it is a left handed salute.

The gas mask pouch is typically on the left side and when I thought he might be facing away what I thought was a flashlight is actually a radio mic, so it’s usually on the right side. Either way, it’s all retarded.
