Though this tidbit might best be filed under the rubric, ‘Who the hell cares?’ I can’t spend much time on FF today because I tend to lose track of time when I become immersed in FF. When I first started commenting here five or six years back my wife said, “What are you doing in there all day? Looking at porn?”
“No,” I answered, “I only do that Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Fridays I do Friday Fail.”
“What’s that?”
“It’s, uh . . . well, for lack of an official definition, it’s a celebration of stupidity.”
“Oh,” she said. She seemed thoroughly unimpressed, yet unsurprised since she believes that stupidity and I are boon companions.
So on Fridays she normally leaves me alone but this week she informed me I have charge of my 20-month-old grandson, so I can’t partake in my celebration of stupidity. If I do I can imagine lifting my head from typing some inane comment when my wife walks in after work and yells at me, “Robert! The baby is playing with knives and pills. What the hell are you doing typing?”
By the way, thanks for your comments and suggestions last week re Lyme Disease. I’m on heavy antibiotics, which come with a myriad of instructions like, take with 8 ounces of water, no lying down for at least 10 minutes after taking the pill, no eating an hour prior or two hours after popping the pill, no drinking milk, no antacids, and no minerals for 2 hours, watch out for the sun since sunburns are a risk with this medicine, and hop on one leg for 20 minutes while poking a fat woman in the belly. Okay I made up the last one, but you practically need an MD comprehend the instructions. Four weeks I’m on the medicine and if I still have symptoms I’ll consider some of last week’s suggestions. Again, thanks. I’m feeling somewhat better already though my wife tells me my face is a bit more hideous than normal since I have a touch of facial palsy on my right side. Just another of the many joys of Lyme.

Same for me. Long time friend from HS was almost failed on his PD orals when asked if he’d ever smoked pot or done other drugs (besides alcohol). He told them no then had to vigorously defend himself when they threatened to fail him for lying. He passed and worked there 33 yrs.
Statistics show that those exposed to DARE were far more likely to use/abuse drugs than those who were not. As if that WASN’T the goal.

They had a similar program in the 70s called NIDS. I had barely heard of drugs on tv. They taught us all about every drug and how to use it.
We became curious at that point.
I don’t know what 70’s you grew up in, but in the 70’s decade in which I grew up, drugs were ubiquitous. Our high school had a smoking area and half of what was smoked was pot. Teachers with any savvy or sense could see it all through the glass walls to the outside smoking area
