Jay Binder, Top-Notch Casting Director for Broadway, Dies at 71

Jay Binder, who served as the casting director for nearly 100 Broadway productions, from Lost in Yonkers, Laughter on the 23rd Floor and The King and I to Chicago, The Lion King and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, has died. He was 71.
Binder died peacefully Friday at his home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a publicist announced. The cause of death has not been determined.

Charnett Moffett, the Bay Area jazz star who worked with Art Blakey, Ornette Coleman, Pharoah Sanders, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock and so many other legendary artists during his nearly 40-year career, has died at the age of 54.
“I am deeply saddened and shocked to confirm that the beloved and iconic jazz bass innovator, composer, and leader Charnett Moffett suddenly passed away due to a heart attack early Monday, April 11th,” publicist Lydia Liebman wrote in a news release. “He was with Jana Herzen, his wife of two years and musical collaborator of twelve years at the time. He was pronounced dead at Stanford University Hospital.”

Chick Corea is known as one of the most powerful pianists, composers, and bandleaders in the history of jazz. He earned 27 Grammy awards and blazed trails across bebop, straight-ahead, free jazz, fusion and Latin jazz over the course of nearly 6 decades.
When he he died unexpectedly last February from a rare form of cancer, he left dozens of musicians heartbroken. On Apr. 15, Jazz at Lincoln Center will celebrate Corea’s legacy with a concert of his music performed by band members from every phase of his long career.

Dan Muse from Chick Corea Productions confirmed his death to NPR on Thursday afternoon. Corea’s team also reported his death on social media, saying that he died from “a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently.” No other details about his illness and death were shared.

Dance Gavin Dance Bassist Tim Feerick Has Died

Dance Gavin Dance are mourning the loss of their longtime bassist, Tim Feerick, who died on Wednesday (April 13), as the band revealed in a statement.
Feerick, who plays the bass guitar on Dance Gavin Dance’s latest album, last year’s Afterburner, had maintained membership in the group for the past decade after joining in 2009 but leaving the following year. He returned to the post-hardcore band in 2012, supplanting bassist Eric Lodge.
Dance Gavin Dance said on Thursday (April 14), “We are absolutely devastated to share the news that our friend and bass player, Tim Feerick, passed away last night.”
They added, “We ask that you respect our privacy and that of Tim’s family while we deal with this heartbreaking and untimely loss.”
Dance Gavin Dance did not offer Feerick’s cause of death or his age on Thursday. Regarding their upcoming tour dates, they said they would share updates “as soon as we have them.” They’re due to start a U.S. tour with Memphis May Fire this month.
