The China-US Arms Race: If One Arm is Right, the Other Will Be Left, No?

This worthy and public-spirited column seldom dives into the thickets of military hardware, which it regards as excessively technical. However, the arms race between China and Washington is of enough gravity that its more exotic armaments may be of interest. Herewith, the truly dangerous weaponry of the contending sides.

C-919 A Chinese narrow-body intended to compete with the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737. Designed and built in China by Comarc. Not quite up to Boeing’s standards, not as fuel-efficient, uses a lot of Western-manufactured parts. (Think  of it as a 1966 Toyota with wings, nothing to worry about.)  Comarc has 570  orders for the 919, almost entirely in China. That’s 570  orders nobody else will get. The domestic market will provide the oomph to improve. By 2024 China is projected to be the world’s largest market for airliners.

Retired Green Beret Warns A Successful Derailment Of Trump’s Efforts Is Well Under Way; War Is Inevitable

Authored by Jeremiah Johnson, nom de plume of a retired Green Beret of the United States Army Special Forces, via SHTFplan.com,

In previous articles, I mentioned the importance of the midterm elections, and how (to run the country effectively and to be reelected) the President needs success within his first six months in office.  Although he is more than willing to make changes and has demonstrated his good intentions, the battle with the ensconced Marxists labeling themselves as either “progressives” or “centrists” is being lost.  Why is it being lost?  It is because these prior Obama appointees in the Circuit courts and the Supreme Court, along with the innumerable holdovers within the administration’s machinery effectively amount to a “fifth column,” bent on sabotaging the President’s efforts.

President Trump: Toss Your Generals’ War Escalation Plans In the Trash

undefined

By the end of this month, Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Advisor HR McMaster will deliver to President Trump their plans for military escalations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. President Trump would be wise to rip the plans up and send his national security team back to the drawing board – or replace them. There is no way another “surge” in Afghanistan and Iraq (plus a new one in Syria) puts America first. There is no way doing the same thing over again will succeed any better than it did the last time.

What Is America’s Goal in the World?

Guest Post by Patrick J. Buchanan

For the World War II generation there was clarity.

The attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941, united the nation as it had never been before — in the conviction that Japan must be smashed, no matter how long it took or how many lives it cost.

After the defeat of the Axis powers in 1945, however, Americans divided.

Only with the Berlin Blockade of 1948, the fall of China to Mao and Russia’s explosion of an atom bomb in 1949, and North Korea’s invasion of the South in 1950, did we unite around the proposition that, for our own security, we had to go back to Europe and Asia.

What was called the Cold War consensus — that only America could “contain” Stalin’s empire — led to NATO and new U.S. alliances from the Elbe to the East China Sea.

Vietnam, however, shattered that Cold War consensus.

‘Anonymous’ Issues Ominous World War 3 Warning: “The Citizens Will Be The Last To Know”

Tyler Durden's picture

Using their signature Guy Fawkes character, the infamous hacktivist group Anonymous has issued an ominous new video – warning people around the world to “prepare” for World War 3 as the US and North Korea continue to move “strategic pieces into place” for battle.

All the signs of a looming war on the Korean Peninsula are surfacing… we’re watching as each country moves strategic pieces into place… but unlike past world wars… although there will be ground troops the battle is likely to be fierce, brutal and quick.

It will also be globally devastating on the environmental and economic levels.

This is a real war with real global consequences… With three super powers drawn into the mix… Other nations will be coerced into choosing sides.

The citizens will be the last to know…

WAR

Guest Post by Ol’ Remus

There’s been a bumper crop of well thought out, well documented predictions of catastrophic war, much of it retreaded 1950s-style doomsday scenarios. Life in the ’50s was bright but bounded by dark fatalism, death row except with good food, nice cars and rock & roll. But no prospect of a reprieve.

There were regular air raid siren and radio tests, year after year. Bomb shelter outfits did brisk business. There was a strong sense of inevitability to it, a “when” not “if”, so much so kids strained to look for the dreaded red star on passing aircraft. It’s part of why boomers are like they are. Would it all end today or after summer vacation? In the times that followed it was good for a chuckle but once again history rhymes. Once again there are predictions of extinction-level war. Once again bomb shelter outfits are doing brisk business.

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“As many frustrated Americans who have joined the Tea Party realize, we cannot stand against big government at home while supporting it abroad. We cannot talk about fiscal responsibility while spending trillions on occupying and bullying the rest of the world. We cannot talk about the budget deficit and spiraling domestic spending without looking at the costs of maintaining an American empire of more than 700 military bases in more than 120 foreign countries. We cannot pat ourselves on the back for cutting a few thousand dollars from a nature preserve or an inner-city swimming pool at home while turning a blind eye to a Pentagon budget that nearly equals those of the rest of the world combined.”

Ron Paul

“Our country is now geared to an arms economy which was bred in an artificially induced psychosis of war hysteria and nurtured upon an incessant propaganda of fear.”

General Douglas McArthur

“It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.”

The Rise of the Generals

Guest Post by Patrick J. Buchanan

Has President Donald Trump outsourced foreign policy to the generals?

So it would seem. Candidate Trump held out his hand to Vladimir Putin. He rejected further U.S. intervention in Syria other than to smash ISIS.

He spoke of getting out and staying out of the misbegotten Middle East wars into which Presidents Bush II and Obama had plunged the country.

President Trump’s seeming renunciation of an anti-interventionist foreign policy is the great surprise of the first 100 days, and the most ominous. For any new war could vitiate the Trump mandate and consume his presidency.

Trump May Send Up To 50,000 Troops To Syria

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears that Mike Cernovich, who earlier this week wrote that Trump’s national security advisor, Gen. H.R.McMaster, was planning on sending as many as 150,000 troops to Syria, may have been right again. According to Bloomberg commentator Eli Lake, who has now made a habit of confirming Cernovich “conspiracy theories” (he did so previously with the Susan Rice scoop), Trump may be on the verge of escalating the proxy war in Syria by sending anywhere between 10,000 and 50,000 troops on the ground, and – if Cernovich is indeed correct – as much as three times more.

The New Ways Of War

Guest Post by The Zman

Early warfare, as best we can tell, was more like gang fights in the modern ghetto than the sort of stuff we associate with war in Antiquity. One settlement would round up some men, who would take on the men of the neighboring settlement. They went at one another in a melee, using axes, clubs and short swords, maybe, with the leaders right there in the middle of it, leading their war bands. A lot of it may have been ritualized, rather than actual combat, but that’s speculation. What’s clear is ti was small scale.

Beware the Dogs of War: Is the American Empire on the Verge of Collapse?

Guest Post by John W. Whitehead

“No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.” — James Madison

Waging endless wars abroad (in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and now Syria) isn’t making America—or the rest of the world—any safer, it’s certainly not making America great again, and it’s undeniably digging the U.S. deeper into debt.

In fact, it’s a wonder the economy hasn’t collapsed yet.

Indeed, even if we were to put an end to all of the government’s military meddling and bring all of the troops home today, it would take decades to pay down the price of these wars and get the government’s creditors off our backs. Even then, government spending would have to be slashed dramatically and taxes raised.

You do the math.

Is Trump Enlisting in the War Party?

Guest Post by Patrick J. Buchanan

By firing off five dozen Tomahawk missiles at a military airfield, our “America First” president may have plunged us into another Middle East war that his countrymen do not want to fight.

Thus far Bashar Assad seems unintimidated. Brushing off the strikes, he has defiantly gone back to bombing the rebels from the same Shayrat air base that the U.S. missiles hit.

Trump “will not stop here,” warned U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley on Sunday. “If he needs to do more, he will.”

If Trump fails to back up Haley’s threat, the hawks now cheering him on will begin deriding him as “Donald Obama.”

Trusting Your Government in a Time of War

Guest Post by Scott Adams

President Trump’s critics and supporters agree on one thing: Our new president has a history of “stretching” the truth whenever there is some advantage in doing so, and sometimes even when there is not. You might say he is famous for playing loose with the facts. We all expect a high degree of “hyperbole” from President Trump, to put it kindly. He gets away with it because barely-enough Americans believe his intentions are in line with America’s best interests.

US Deploys Fleet to Korea

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

US Aircraft CarrierTrump has sent a demonstration of strength against North Korea deploying a group of aircraft carriers towards the Korean Peninsula. With the loose-canon in charge of North Korea, a show of force is not guaranteed to have any effect on giving him a second thought. The measure instead may more likely simply exacerbate tensions in the region. Unquestionably, North Korea remains the biggest threat in Asia.

Russia, Iran Warn U.S. They Will “Respond With Force” If Syria “Red Lines” Crossed Again

Tyler Durden's picture

A statement issued on Sunday by a joint command centre consisting of forces of Russian, Iran and allied militia alliance supporting Syrian President Bashar al Assad said that Friday’s US strike on the Syrian air base crossed “red lines” and it would “respond with force” to any new aggression while increasing their level of support to their ally.

In the statement published by the group on media outlet Ilam al Harbi, the pro-Assad alliances says that “what America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well.”

TRUMP MAKES WAR AND EVERYONE SWOONS

One need no more proof of just how sick  USA, USA, USA, We r #1111111!, is than the sudden fellating of Donald W. Trump by all the neocons, criminal Zionists such as Netanyahu, McCain and Graham and apparently now Brian Williams and Fareed Zakaria as well.  Gee, I guess international law was for suckers all along.  Nothing wrong with laying a big stinking pile on the US Constitution as well and undertaking a glaring act of war on a non-threatening, sovereign nation.  Nope, nothing at all wrong with it.  Move along folks.  Not only is it totally cool, but it’s admirable.  Finally Trump has become the leader of the Free World!, a Great Statesman!
