The verdict is in. Barack Obama has won a “resounding” victory in “the most important election of our lifetime.” Here are the details:
Barack Obama received 59.2 million votes to Mitt Romney’s 56.7 million votes. Gary Johnson was third, with 1.1 million votes. If the data being reported is correct, 117.6 million Americans cast votes in this election. This means that 50.3% of the people who voted, chose Barack Obama. Mitt Romney received 48.2% of the popular vote. Johnson and the rest of the candidates received 1.5% of the votes.
There are 235 million Americans age 18 or over in this country. Only 150 million of these people are registered to vote. This means that 32.4 million registered voters are either too ignorant, too lazy, or too disgusted with their choices to even cast a vote. That means 22% of registered voters decided to stay home yesterday.
That leaves us with the 85 million Americans who are eligible to vote, but don’t even bother to register. I’m sure there are a number of disgusted people in this group who are boycotting the system, and another chunk of young people who would rather tweet and facebook than think, but surely the vast majority are the most ignorant portion of our once great country. They would rather watch Honey Boo Boo, American Idol, and Jersey Shore than care about the future of our country.
So, Barack Obama has the support of 25.2% of the voting age population. He doesn’t have the support of 24.9% of the voting age population. And lastly, 49.9% of the voting age population doesn’t give a shit either way, as long as their TV turns on, money comes out of ATM machines, their EBT card replenishes every month, and they can buy Cheetos at the grocery store.
The next four years should be a bumpy ride. Hold on.
Or don’t worry about it.

I agree that the overwhelming majority of the 32.4 million registered non-voters are too lazy or involved in nonsense to not show up and vote.
This makes me realize how small of a subsection I am a part of and how lonely I am. I am registered as a republican but am a highly active non-participant in regards to voting because, as it is today, I see it as a process of validating evil and destroying freedom and approving of such things is against my character and moral code.
And before I get my head bitten off for not voting for the lesser of 2 evils (or casting it for RP or GJ as a protest vote), even if I didn’t think this, my vote wouldn’t count anyway, I live in PA and this state goes the way of Philly; which means getting closer and closer to NJ, (IOW down the toilet).

The sad part of this election is what is says about the American public. Clueless, increasingly looking to Government. Lessening self responsibility from an already severely low threshold.

I have often had to sit down to a big serving of crow. It is an acquired taste and at first hard to swallow and keep down. But you get used to it.
If you will bread it and fry it in lard it’s best. Put plenty of salt and Heinz 57 on it.
Goes good with French fries and a glass of jack Daniels
Bon appetit !

sangell says:
What this ‘election’ tells us is that if you have enough money you can register and get to the polls enough of the underclass to eke out a small majority. I doubt we will hear a peep from the Democrats about campaign finance reform anymore. The GOP should embrace it because they do not need that much money to get their vote out which is why they won big in 2010 and will likely do so again in 2014.
Another thing the GOP needs to do and quick is insist that Hispanics be given their fair share of public sector employment positions and that federal funds be withheld from municipal, county and state governments that do not have a public sector work force that fairly represents the composition of the population. This is a no cost proposition to the GOP because few of their voters are public sector employees and those that are white and work in fields that would not be affected by any hispanic affirmative action hiring program. OTOH if Romney had made this a big issue in the campaign he might have gotten enough hispanic support to have made him president this morning.
The GOP might also want to reconsider its position on Israel. Why on earth do Republicans prostrate themselves before AIPAC only to have the Jewish community in the US bankroll the Democrats and Jewish voters go 80% for the Democrats. The Republicans should distance themselves from pro Israeli policies and cut our military and economic support. Any loss in Jewish money/votes would be more than made up for by increased Muslim support.
Identity politics is, unfortunately, the nature of the beast in 21st century America.
