“Most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker, but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all.” – Michael Rivero

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play. The tune does not matter, so long it is the only one the public is allowed to hear. Eventually they will all dance.” – Joseph Goebbels

“The lie can be maintained only for such time as the state can shield the people from the political, economic and military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the state to use all of it’s powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth becomes the greatest enemy of the state.” – Joseph Goebbles.

“Until they become conscious, they will never rebel and until after they have rebelled, they cannot become conscious.” – George Orwell

“Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened.” – Winston Churchill

“We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark, the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.” – Plato

“Its not a matter of what is true that counts but a matter of what is perceived to be true.” – Henry Kisinger

“It is difficult to free fools from their chains they revere.” – Voltaire

“None are more hopelessly enslaved then those that believe they are free.” – Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe

The Michael Rivero quote is spot on.

The Kisinger one is also spot on, perceived truth to a dumbed down populace.
How do we hope to fight idiocracy? I have no hope for immediate change and I fear the chaos and riots that will destroy the lives of those who could envision the end game, but will get fucked over regardless.

    It’s easy to grin,
    When your ship comes in,
And you have the stock market beat,
    But the man worthwhile,
Is the man who can smile,
When his shorts are too tight in the seat. Ted Knight

The “Plato” quotation is not his and appears to date from the 1950s.

“You’d be better off jacking off a mountain lion with barbed wire in a phone booth than fucking with me” (Or something close to that)

Can you please tell me which philosopher said that? Thanks.

Barry – no one really cares who said it so long as the quote is meaningful and astute. Sorry to rain on your parade.

Quotes must be accurate and given a context. It’s recorded history. People put words in the mouths of Plato, Franklin, Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Twain and even Ronald Reagan that they never said, and it’s wrong. Ronald Reagan, for example, is not alive to defend himself and tell you that he never said it. If you know that a quote is bogus, it’s doubly wrong.

I realize that no one pays me for accurate research, but it’s not appreciated either. I guess my stay here will be short. Sorry about that.

Barry – no one trying to run you off. We – at least some of us – do not share your devotion to accuracy in this matter and could care less, and will see it as an intrusion if you see it as your place to be the resident corrector. If you are offended by that, that is up to you.

But it appears you are obsessed by this issue. Perhaps you might think about that.

    @ Barry Popik

I appreciate the quote by Plato and your challenge he may not have said that. What is far more interesting is WHY you may have known that in the first place. I, for one, would not have had that information at hand, namely the link you posted, to have issued that challenge. I like that.

As invited above, stick around, Barry.
