llinois motorists are living in a bankrupt state that has promised pensions it never funded. Their state constitution bars the politicians from reducing the pensions so the net result, tax payers must pay a lot more to fund pensions of government workers. As oil prices have collapsed, tax revenues have dropped. The net result, the proposal made by Democrat State Sen. John Cullerton imposes a new tax upon residents forcing them to pay 1.5 cents per mile that they drive. Taxes will rise further and further as the States move into major deficits and as interest rates rise, they will be compelled to raise taxes drastically.
They used their “cash for clunkers” program and their tax credits to get rubes to buy an overpriced hybrid or plug-in electric and once people started using less gas, they want switch over to a mileage tax. This idea has already cropped up in Washington State and Minnesota. I know MN shot it down (so far). Not sure about WA. And note that they way they want to track people’s mileage is to TRACK THE PEOPLE. They want to put GPS monitors on all of the cars. As an ancillary benefit, they’d be able to figure out who goes to a Trump rally and set them up for special monitoring and IRS audits. What’ll probably happen is that the libtards in Califuckingfornia will pass a mileage tax, the car companies will install the GPS monitors so they can sell cars in CA and the NSA will be able to track everybody. Fuckety fuck fuck!
How will this affect out of state drivers and Illinois drivers driving out of state? It will be national before we know it
Yet another tax by the regressives that will hurt the poor the most. Total mind blower.
The hunt for revenue is on!
BTW, how is this going to be tallied and charged.
Did I miss something?
If they want more tax money, raise the gas tax. That way, heavy vehicles that do more damage to the roads pay more. Or don’t raise the gas tax – I don’t care. But NOOOOO. Novelty for novelty’s sake. It’s “new & improved”, requiring more, expensive technology – GPS monitors on all vehicles – and also allows the government to track your every move. What could be better?
Susana – it’s not about money. It’s about control & knowing where we are and where we go at all times.
Philly is going to double the cost of a soda in order to fund the gold plated pension plans of the public school teachers.

The beverage industry is spending more than $1.5 million on ads attacking Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney’s proposed tax on soda and other sugary drinks.
The American Beverage Association, a national trade group, has been running radio ads since March calling it a “grocery tax on the kind of drinks we buy for our family.”
On Friday, the ABA put out its first TV spot that attempts to hammer home just how much more these drinks could cost — and how many products other than soda would fall within the tax’s scope.
“This tax could mean higher prices on hundreds of grocery items with some sugar like soft drinks, sports drinks, juice drinks, energy drinks and teas,” says a female voice. “Many products could double in price.”
The ad shows an animated two-liter bottle of soda that would normally cost $1.79 rising in price to $3.83.
Under the proposed legislation, the 3 cents-per-ounce tax would be levied on the distributors who deliver these drinks. The language in the ABA’s ad assumes the full amount will be passed on to consumers. The Kenney administration’s revenue analysis also assumes the entire tax will pass through.
In Berkeley, California — the only city in the country with a sugary drinks tax — a November study found consumers pay between 30 and 70 percent of the 1 cent-per-ounce tax there, depending on the beverage. The study by the University of California, Berkeley and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill found the price of soda increased by 0.69 cent per ounce and the price of sweetened teas by 0.32 cent per ounce.
So far, the ABA has shelled out $583,415 to advertise on local radio stations and $982,725 to run the commercial on broadcast and cable television. A version of the TV ad will run during trailers in 10 movie theaters in Philadelphia.
The ad also reflects a shift in the opposition’s approach from the last time the city considered such a tax. Back in 2011, critics called it a job-killer. This time, the ABA is focusing on the tax’s potential effect on consumers.
“The people of Philadelphia have to understand what this tax means for them and their families and their bottom lines, frankly,” said campaign spokesman Anthony Campisi.
That message attempts to undermine Kenney’s central argument in favor of the tax: that it will help raise more than $400 million over the next five years for projects including universal pre-K, community schools and revamping parks, recreation centers and libraries, projects supporters say will help low-income families.
How about they just have a tax for every Nigger that get’s shot. Make the gang-bangers buy a $5,000 license for each one they bag.
This has been the wet dream of the criminal cabal for many years. The insurance companies have tried to push customers into the “black box” that plugs into the dash of your car by offering a small discount. Also you may remember when Oreo had been in office for a couple of years, he announced that he wanted to have all Merikans hooked up to the black box but they never implemented this program.
This is to be imposed on all Americans so get ready, we will all be paying a GW tax per mile to operate our vehicles and you can take that to the bank. It may start at 1.5 cents per mile but you KNOW it will only go up from there.
I propose a special 50% (or more) tax bracket for politicians, along with requiring a public vote on any pay raises…
How will they collect it? Annually when taxes are filed?
How will they ACTUALLY know the miles driven? I’m guessing whatever the tax-payer tells them.
“Uh, yeah. That’s right. I only drove 2,175 last year. I swear!”
If they institute this I see a brisk business in odometer bypass HAHAHAHAHAHHHHA.
I’m sure the taxpayer will cover the cost of outfitting new and existing cars with a GPS device to track miles driven, and our location, for our safety.
Then tax us on miles driven.
Actually I read about this last year. Under that proposal only the highway miles are charged at 1.5 cents, the closer you get to Chicago the slower you go so the cost per mile goes up, once in city limits I thought the proposal was close to 80 cents a mile, cause you are in a road construction caused traffic jam…..
How will they tax Chicago 09994 or whatever her handle is? You can’t have any potential slackers that don’t drive slipping through the cracks. Hell! she’s not even doing her part by paying gas taxes per gallon! A more equitable solution would be what Britain did while I lived there………a Poll Tax! If you are sucking air in the formerly great state of Illinois, you have to pay $3000 per year for the privilege!
I used to read things like this and automatically envision the revolt that would ensue. Now all I envision is this:

The PTB (Rummy Emanuel) and their ilk in this corrupt hell hole (liberals read it as utopia) have also floated a tax on wokers who migrate to the loop or city limits from outside said limits.
Don’t know bout you all but these deluded pickled idiots who reside in a pickle jar are doing everything they can to utterly destroy any market commerce or means of exchange.
I am now at 3.5 months from vacating this dump for the pot capital of Murika – lower taxes and sun and blue sky. Clock is ticking.
This is what Illinois will do. It is already beginning its spread.
Sooner or later people will go Galt and let the government go hang. You can’t get blood out of a turnip.
I drive 180 miles each way to the farm every weekend. So, rounding up, let’s say $5.50 per weekend, times about 45 weekends a year. Add to that the $50-$75 per weekend I already pay in gas and tolls.
I pay about $45,000 a year in total taxes, with Illinois getting a good chunk of change. Going Galt is becoming more and more tempting all the time.
Anyone interested in a 3-br, 2-ba condo on LSD? Muggings are only up 144% in my neighborhood so far this year. Virtual utopia.
Hmmm. On a efficient car, say getting 40mpg, that equates to a 60 cent per gallon tax.
On gas guzzlers like I drive, it is like a 15 cent per gallon tax.
Bwahahahahahaha! Bet those folks driving small cars will be so pleased by this. Too funny.
Stucky- If you had bothered to read my post above, you would not be wondering how they will know how many miles the citizens drive.

CBS news has links and other MSM links are out there if this one does not work. I believe they have just started installing these black boxes in new vehicles coming off the assembly lines.
Bea, the link doesn’t work. But black boxes have been in cars for years. Here’s a 2014 piece that provides more information on how to protect the information they collect, what cars have them, etc.

Thank you Thinker!!! Bookmarked that for the Mr.
You too Bea, even tho it didn’t work.
@Thinker…
180 miles to the farm. Northern WI?
Sell the condo, and get out.
The Mr. drives those miles to our “farm.”
Or sell and rent if you need that job.
Thinker and Suzanna
The black box I refer to is called TripSensor and is about the size of two 9V batteries which ports into the computer system of your car. This is different from the crash data black box.
Progressive insurance was first to offer this device to get a discount on your policy. Many insurers offer the discount/device now. They began permanent installs on new cars in 2015. Access to the computer for miles driven is included.
In Texas we are forced to get vehicle inspections every year ( for the children ). The mechanic runs vehicle diagnostics and checks the odometer. It would be simple to calculate your milage and then simply add the tax on top of your inspection fee ( another tax ). Or the mechanic could simply report that milage reading to the DMV which could then add the tax to your registration fees ( another fucking tax ).
But it’s obviously not about taxes. It’s about control.
