I’m always a little behind when it comes to popular TV, especially when the shows are on premium cable channels. Being cheap, I’ve refused to pay for any premium cable channels, plus I’ve spent much of my life on baseball fields and in hockey rinks, rather than watching TV. When my kids recently signed up for HBO Now, I finally got to watch The Sopranos, eleven years after its final episode aired. Now I’m finally able to watch Game of Thrones, after it has been on the air for seven seasons. In the opening episodes I was impressed by the theme which permeates the series. Numerous characters stated “Winter is Coming”. I was immediately struck by the parallels with the Fourth Turning theory about the cyclical nature of our world.

The phrase “Winter is Coming” has multiple meanings in the context of Game of Thrones. First, it is the motto of House Stark, referring to their vigilance regarding dark times ahead. It is a manifestation, meaning one should always be prepared for the worst. As rulers of the North, the Starks were always ready for anything that could happen because eventually something wicked would come. Thus, winter is coming. Another meaning was related to the actual seasonal dynamic in the land of Westeros. They had a very odd seasonal structure where summer and winter could last for long periods of time without anyone knowing when they would switch. They had experienced a long period of summer, meaning a long winter was coming.
The deeper metaphorical meaning of the phrase is how seasons are a reflection of sentiment and mood in our lives and in the world. Even though things may be going well in your world (summer), you know it won’t last forever – a dark period of bitter cold is coming and events will turn against you. The underlying message of the entire show is no one is safe and disaster, danger and death await everyone. Just when you think you are safe, the ominous foreboding of the phrase conveys the message that peril is just over the horizon. The advent of winter unquestionably foretells doom, destruction, and hostilities will rage on the winter winds in a never ending gale. Whether any character survives the onslaught of winter is always in doubt.
George R.R. Martin, the writer of the Game of Thrones books, was inspired by the Hundred Years War in creating the setting and mood of his dystopian adventure. The populations lived on the edge of starvation as the Black Plague, war, famine, and unyielding weather created a bleak existence. The allegorical use of winter in literature spans centuries, from Shakespeare’s winter of our discontent to the Fourth Turning describing our current Crisis period as winter in the generational cycle of history. Winter is used in Shakespearian plays, the Game of Thrones and the Fourth Turning as a metaphor to convey the dark and bitterly cold period wherein peril and death menace all who reside on this earth. Death and destruction come suddenly and un-expectantly during winter storms.

I also see other parallels between the Game of Thrones world and other aspects of Fourth Turnings. I wrote an article about the Gray Champion of this Fourth Turning – Gray Champion Assumes Command two weeks after the shocking election of Donald Trump in November 2016. There is nothing that has happened since then to convince me Donald Trump is not a Gray Champion of this ongoing Fourth Turning Crisis.
The generational alignment which happens every eighty to a hundred years unfolded once again in 2008, with a financial crisis on par with the 1929 Crash and subsequent Great Depression. It took until 2016 for a Gray Champion to appear, and to the surprise of the elitist chattering class it wasn’t Hillary Clinton, but billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump. His arrival marked the beginning of the most perilous portion of this winter of our discontent.

I have been focused on Trump as the Gray Champion, as he becomes the lightening rod during the second half of this Fourth Turning. Domestic tyranny is spreading across the land as the Deep State attempts to maintain their stranglehold over the financial, political and media levers of our surveillance state. Our hour of darkness, adversity and peril is approaching like a deadly winter storm. The arrival of Trump through the wintry mist has not rallied the entire country to his cause.
His entrance into the Swamp has divided the country into two competing camps, unwilling to compromise or cooperate in doing what’s right for the long-term benefit of the country. The advent of Trump has exacerbated the three driving core elements of debt, civic decay and global disorder. He is a lightning rod, not a healer. The vitriol, hate, and animosity engulfing the country is reminiscent of the years leading up to the Civil War.
In Part Two of this article I will assess the configuration of Gray Champions throughout the world today and the potential impact on the course of this Fourth Turning and history yet to be made.

Fuck – Fuck – Fuck – It snowed 17″ between Friday evening and Sunday midnight – here in Minneapolis.
This was accompanied by 20-30 mph winds. Sunday morning I had a large drift about 5′ high in front of my garage. Now I have a 6HP Honda with tractor tracks. Well the drift is higher than the machine – you can’t go through the drift – you have a eat away at it, collapse, snow blow, collapse, snow blow – like an hour later – I got rid of the drift.
This was no regular snow. The bottom 4″ – 5″ was half-ass slush. It froze in the auger! I turned the heat in the garage to 70, and had a fan blow on the auger. After about 45 minutes, I was ready for another hour. In total I spend about 5 hrs outside – over the course of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

I have sent this around before…the books “Dark Winter” and “Cold Times” support global cooling, coming to a planet near you, Cold Times is an excellent solar minimum prepper book.
I’m building my last house in the next year and it will be built with a serious basement, two wood burning stoves (one in the basement and one to also cook on in the kitchen) massive insulation and a steep roof for all the snow to slide off…many other considerations for SHTF in all ways…and its in lowland rural NC.

Look to youtube for simple mods you can make to your impeller that will allow you to throw slush. All you need is some old rubber like off a mudflap and some self tapping screws.
My tracked snowblower throws slush about 10 feet now and regular snow about 50 feet. Totally new machine.

Just heard from my mail route carrier son in WI where it snowed 15″ of globull warming. He said today was “challenging”. But then he did tours in Iraq, Afghan, Bosnia, etc.
I have friends there. They had a drift totally blocking the front door of their townhouse and couldn’t get out. Their neighbors worked from the outside while they worked from inside, and it took two hours to clear the door… That is some nasty snow. I grew up there in the 60’s and 70’s, and I don’t remember a winter like this one.

Excellent article! Another one that instills reflection, on my part. One thing I would add is that Grey Champions rarely rally an entire population. There was a populous and rigorous ‘anti’ movement in each of our previous turnings, more populous however was the massive amounts of ‘antipathy’ that existed in all cases as well. If you dig deep into our history, since it’s been supressed both intentionally and unintentionally, you’ll see that the actual support for these conflicts was in the area of 20%. Most people just went with the ‘tide’. The ‘civil war’ may have been the one actual exception, hence the devastating loss of life in that conflict.

History doesn’t repeat itself but it sure does rhyme. There has been a civil war brewing within our system between deep state agents and the financial players for years. Anyone who believes that the end game is baked in the cake and that one side will not go down without a fight is dreaming.
The left-right paradigm is being used to rally each side of the populace to each combatants cause. The question for us plebs is who offers the better path? And if we rally to that cause is there any guarantee that we will not end up right back where we were before this 4th Turning got rolling?
There are so many moving pieces and so much information to sift through it is difficult to discern what is true and what is right. We will be forced to dig, question and trust our own moral compasses now more than ever before if we are to expect a positive outcome in the long run.
Winter doesn’t have to end in disaster. It depends largely on how we prepare and contend with it once it is here.

In that instance, it would seem the haves and have nots would be divided up in a manner that differs greatly from the traditional rich vs poor. The haves would be anyone, regardless of income, that were smart enough to ensure they are able to feed themselves for a while during some type of calamity. Anyone that still hasn’t done that needs their head examined. Even just two weeks worth of canned soup that doesn’t require any preperation puts you head and shoulders above 95% of the population.

If any has seen, been involved or intensely studied any civil war or conflict around the globe there is NO PREPARED, only those that may have more studied skills that may or may not serve them over the years of strife.
Populations overrun ammo … food runs out … gold will purchase nothing when little is able to be produced. Those thinking they will grow their little gardens and “fight” off invaders with their “fire teams” are delusional. First thing that happens in a civil war is that those that are jack boot thugs (LEOs) use their resources to subdue the populace around them (and this includes small towns). The same can be said for criminal gangs of all kinds when the chaos erupts … think the riots in LA [how many could have gone through that for weeks, let alone years?)
“Last Second After” is a great account of what happens when the world turns dark. The death and decay of bodies bring further disease … 3months down the road the population has been reduced by 70-80 %. Because, guess what folks; if the US (one of the major the breadbaskets of the world) goes down then no one is coming to help us out since they most likely will be going down as well.

I’ve read many survival blogs, but they all pale in comparison to Selco who speaks from the experience of surviving the Bosnian war and one year in a small city completely besieged with no food, sewage, water, law, medical services, etc.
Reading Selco is depressing, but I forced myself to keep reading to psychologically prepare for the darkness to come. Survivors will envy the dead and no one will ever be the same (PTSD.) Once I’m done reading, I plan to subscribe to his survival course.

Okay. I think I get where you’re coming from, now. I have never in my entire adult life believed that the voting public has anything to do with the erection of the presidents in America. At one time, probably. Possibly even as recently as the election of JFK. But I suspect strongly that that was the last time they allowed the people to have any actual say in who becomes president (assuming that they did even that recently).
As such, I do not believe that Trump was voted in by Flyover Rednecks, or anyone else outside of the 1%. But, of course, looking at the reactions, and subsequent actions of Killary, WaPo, the Neocons et al. it seems fairly obvious that he’s not part of the same club that they are. But neither is he one of the Dirt People. So… your idea does, I think, have merit. Also, I distantly recall someone at the Bilderberg frat party (I think it was?) saying that after taking a close look at the two candidates, they decided that they could work with Trump. That he was a “good purchase”. And, obviously, not everyone in the 1% is on board with that idea. It’s important to remember that the Swamp is not some monoculture where everyone buys the same brand of luxury aircraft and smokes the same brand of cigars and sings from the same hymnals. It is a vast, thriving ecosystem with many different groups, and everyone is probably in at least three of those groups. So… yeah. Maybe this does represent one federation of groups deciding to move in a different direction than “the” other federation. The prizes to be taken are surely going to be rich indeed, very far beyond the imaginings of us Dirt People.
