Two neighbors in Arkansas were arrested after drinking on the back porch led to donning a bullet-proof vest and shooting each other.
WREG reports that the incident occurred in Benton County, where 50-year-old Charles Eugene Ferris and 36-year-old Christopher Hicks drank then allegedly took turns wearing the bullet-proof vest.
Ferris allegedly asked Hicks to shoot him and then got mad because the shot hurt, even while wearing the vest. So he had Hicks wear the vest and he allegedly “unloaded the clip into [his] back.” Hicks was bruised, but no bullets penetrated.
The Insider reports Ferris eventually went to the hospital because of the pain associated with being shot and allegedly made up a story about being shot while protecting an “asset.” But Ferris’ wife told police the truth–that Ferris and Hicks were drinking, then took turns shooting each other–after which both men were “arrested over aggravated assault, a Class D felony.”
Both men were released on bond.

Old Shoe, nearly all ‘crimes’ in AR are felonies ‘:) , and then this has to happen, hell we were getting to the point where the media didn’t throw up the 1957 Central High integration fiasco every time AR made the national news. These guy’s look like they may be from Oklahoma, eyes set too close together, cause there are a lot of them that come over into AR. Just my two cents :0).

I guess they couldn’t very well charge them with “reckless discharge of a firearm” since they both hit what they were aiming at…

That don’t make no sense.
The charges will not stick unless they each testify against each other, which means they would both have felonies, so common sense says this will get thrown out.
They should have charged them with unlawful discharge of firearms, and disturbing the peace, then they might have to make plea deals.

In most states you can’t discharge a firearm on the back porch of a house. In fact, the normal distance is 100 yards of a dwelling if I remember correctly.
That said, my uncle in Wyoming used to shoot elk from his back porch, but there was nobody within 20 miles to even know that it happened.
Down here in the Ozarks people shoot guns from anywhere they damn well please.
Damn straight and no one says Boo about it. If we see or hear gunshots any time day or night we assume something needs killing.

Just a couple of boys having some good clean fun and a beer or two. That should not be cause for arrest.

Seems reasonable to me. After a few cans of beer, shooting my friends always sounds like a good idea. Allowing them to shoot back is only fair. At least they didn’t break a law by doing something irresponsible, like dueling. Realistically speaking, they were just conducting a Sighuntiffic Esperiment with some very loose research ethics and fewer controls than most professional scientific experiments, but all that means is when they conduct follow-on experiments in the future, I hope they can improve their controls and try different parts of the anatomy, such as the skull or the gluteus assimus. I also hope they will better document their research programs by uploading the collected data to youtube.com for analysis by the wider informal scientific community.
Put them back home in their back yard with plenty to drink. They would kill each other. Problem solved.
