I’m working on the July 4 piece about Jefferson and Manifest Destiny. It turns out when you try to get to the beginning of the National Organization for Women, it takes you into the Prohibitionist Swamp and even further along, you wade through Abolitionist movements and the next thing you know you get wedged between the Articles of Confederation and a guy named Thomas Jefferson, who lived down the road from some Browns and some Rusts in Virginia? Oh, what’s in a name? Well, for some of us constrained to name our offspring for people long dead and buried in Virginia, a lot is in a name.

Hello everybody, Maggie Brondson here. I want to thank you for your tolerance and kindness shown to my Rob. I know he can be a pill. His involvement here has greatly relieved the neighbors who had taken to staying indoors whenever Rob was out hunting squirrels. They call him Charles and talk about Rob’s death wish play-acting. He scared a couple of new residents when he shot at a squirrel over their fence and I insisted after that he use a plastic air gun instead. He claims that I have been posting lies here and he says I’ve been ‘trolling’ this site, whatever that means. I looked up his computer history and found this place. I’m not that Maggie, whoever she is but Rob carries on like I’m pulling an obvious prank on him. At times he thinks it’s all a big joke and laughs telling me I really knocked one out of the park. Other times, he growls at his dinner, cutting his steak vehemently. Our son won’t speak to him directly anymore and only relays messages to Rob through me; mostly encouraging Rob to repent before it’s too late and goes straight to hell. Rob just laughs at him when I tell him what our son said. I miss the kids badly but Rob says that our son got what he deserved for disfellowshipping Rob. Rob Jr. told Rob, I love you dad, but you are of the devil. Rob didn’t take too kindly to that and they haven’t spoken directly ever since. He started shooting squirrels with Rob Jr.’s old .22 rifle right about that time. Rob got arrested one time and he went to the twin towers jail downtown. I think he got molested, if you know what I mean, he never talks much about that. In fact, sometimes he denies it so adamantly that I begin to doubt my own memory. Still, the neighbors claim they might call the cops and have him arrested again if they weren’t convinced that he actually wants to be arrested. I hope I haven’t troubled you, I have to go now, Rob is waking from his nap.
