Despite being the only Republican candidate who could have won in 2016, he is currently (in my mind, at least) the only one who could lose in 2024.
I am a big picture guy. For my money, Donald Trump’s presidency was greatest not for the many policies he enacted, but because of what he represented. I have the words to back it up; in the aftermath of the 2020 election I wrote that “Win Or Lose, Trump Saved America.” I still stand by every word. The movement Trump inspired – arguably one of the greatest conservative revivals in American history – was born of his justified hostility to the corporate media, unabashed love of country, and general fearlessness. He alerted us to the evils of a propagandist media and cocooned D.C ruling class. Jeb wasn’t going to defeat Hillary, let alone spill in the beans on a Bush-family gravy train.
It had to be Trump.
Indeed, the movement kickstarted by Trump is far larger than his fleeting presidency or of the man himself. I wonder if it needs to stay that way.
Setting aside the interview with Candace Owens the other week and the bizarre messaging around his vaccine program, I am struggling more and more with the prospect of a Donald Trump presidential campaign in 2024. Let me count the ways.
First of all, I think conservatives pride themselves on being, among other things, practical. Is it practical if Trump attempts a return to the White House? What is gained exactly by Trump being president, and not, say, Ron DeSantis, Rand Paul, or another liberty-oriented executive?
Like it or not, Trump’s style of politics turns people off. The same traits that catapulted him to his nomination and ultimate electoral victory in 2016 are, for better or worse, the same traits that likewise prevent otherwise sensible people from voting for him. In my immediate orbit, I can think of twelve people that cast a vote in 2016 that didn’t return in 2020. And that’s only a really immediate orbit; what does this translate to nationwide? Concerns of a rigged election are entirely legitimate, but so too is the fact that registered Republicans and center-right independents sat out the presidential contest. How much of his persona has been generated by the media and how much is a veritable inherent characteristic is moot. People have their minds made up one way or the other. It could very well be that enough people are fed up with Brandon being in the White House to vote for anyone wearing a red tie, so there is that.
The other big problem with Donald Trump as a politician, as opposed to a kingmaker, is that his ability to provide clear, concise, and meaningful rhetoric is a glaring weak spot. Yes, the confidence and the attack-first mentality play well in soundbites and make me proud to have a rare patriot in the White House, but played longer and those off-script soundbites start to sound erratic and uniformed. Donald Trump is a very savvy individual, but explaining complex and nuanced ideas is not one of his fortes. That’s not a dig, either. That’s just a reality. As the left continues its relentless encroachment on American values and ways of life, we need a leader who can identify, name, and provide a pinpointed solution to the problem. If the conservative movement wishes to attract new voters, it will have to appeal to a different voter wavelength. Can Trump do that?

Trump needs to continue his blustering and drawing the fire of the dem establishment, media and big tech. Just before Christmas 2023, he needs to announce he is not running and put his support behind another person. He should stay on the campaign trail, as nobody else can draw the crowds and excite them like the showman extraordinaire.

The shine is off Trump and realistically, if he was smart, he’d do as TN stated and back a real candidate… Should Trump not run… I think it would be a contest between cruz and Desantas. And personally, cruz is a career dirtball chameleon, not one I’d trust in anything.

I wouldn’t vote for him in the primary because he’s not a natural born citizen. In the general I would. At that point you can’t get hung up on the constitution.

DeSantis might run, but Drumph will probably try to derail that by saying DeSantis should be his VP. Remember, Drumph was a life-long Dem and Clinton supporter before he buffed up his acting chops and started playing a Rino on TV

The Clintons were supposed to be public enemy #1 as far as republicOns were concerned. Fast forward, republicOns supported a con and Clinton elbow rubber in 2016, 2020?
Cruz, yeah , I could not get past who his wife worked for , Goldman Sachs, so actually I did not vote in the republicOn primaries 2016 ( nor 2020). Then there is Steve Mnuchin, former Goldman crony who becomes sec of treasury under Donnie? Oh Donnie, Steve is part of the swap. Pull your head out then go back from where YOU came.

I am reading a comical book titled The Front Bench Regulars , Wit and Wisdom from Back Home in the Hills by Larry Dablemont. It’s about the tales and such that occurred in an old time pool hall the Dablemonts owned in the 50’s and 60’s.

While I understood their frustration, I still used to be critical of libertarians who didn’t vote. I considered that even the worst Republican was preferable to any Democrat. The pandemic opened my eyes. I don’t trust DeSantis. He was promoting vaccines. Rand Paul repeatedly skewered Fauci then let him go. Some mentioned they’d vote for Cruz. During the 2016 primary Cruz played dirty tricks against Trump, then when Trump retaliated, people blamed him. Pence, the boy scout and his phony wife so horrified at Trump’s pu**y recording are both pedophiles. It’s all theater focused on getting elected or re-elected. These politicians are all corrupt and are either Godless satanic globalists themselves or controlled by them.
