It took many, many American lives and much taxpayer oppression just to build all that equipment. Not to mention all the members of the armed forces that had to use and maintain it. And now we eventually will have it used against us and we will have to destroy it. Let’s count all the costs. We took at least four major hits with that fiasco not to mention the intangibles–total loss of respect and credibility. This horrific defeat was planned from the start from the inside. Many heads should roll , but we all know they won’t.
I would guess that it was the same way that Reagan made the Mujahadeen and the resulting Taliban a military power….only Reagan did it more directly.
It was the same after Vietnam — we left VN one of the best-equipped armed forces in the world …

I remember reading that we left enough in Nam to equip the 5th largest military in the world and they were already pretty well equipped, thanks to the Russians and Chicoms
