Comedy Gold: The Joke’s on You

As an internet writer seeking common ground, or, rather, a mutual base frame of reference with the readers, I’ll often use widely disseminated resources in order to inspire contemplation and conversation. Obviously, these sources would include movies and books.  So, with that in mind, I recently took advantage of $5 Tuesdays at a theater near me and saw “Joker”.   The antagonist of the film, of course, is Batman’s old arch nemesis, “The Joker”.

Questions Emerge Over Florida Shooter’s “Full Metal Garb”

Just as we saw with the massacre in Las Vegas, a number of questions and inconsistencies have arisen following the Parkland High School shooting.

As Intellhub’s Shepard Ambellas reports, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School teacher Stacy Lippel was grazed by a hot bullet which left the chamber of the shooter’s gun as she closed the door to her classroom after letting a number of students file into what would presumably be safety. However, nothing could have prepared the teacher for what she was to witness next.

“I suddenly saw the shooter about twenty feet in front of me standing at the end of the hallway actively shooting down the hallway, just a barrage of bullets, and I’m staring at him thinking why are the police here,this is strange because he’s in full metal garb, helmet, face mask, bulletproof armor, shooting this rifle that I’ve never seen before,” Lippel told Good Morning America last Wednesday.

The brave teacher said she told fellow Stoneman Douglas H.S. teacher Scott Beigel, 35, to get back in his room just before the shooter fired a number of rounds into his room killing him and other students. Lippel said the shooter fired four to five rounds into her classroom which shattered the classroom door window before the heavily-claded assassin continued his diabolic shooting spree down the hallway.

FBI Tipster Transcript Leaked: Cruz Will “Get Into A School And Shoot The Place Up”: Full Text

Update: Amid public demands for transparency, the Broward Police have released the full list of 23 calls for service to the  home of attacker Nikolas Cruz, in a desperate bid to deflect criticism over handling the Parkland school shooting. The final call, however, just like the transcript from the January 5 call discussed below, shows that serious concerns were not acted on.

“In the interest of full transparency, we are making available the list of all 23 calls for service at the Cruz home,” the sheriff’s office said in a Friday tweet. “18 involved Nikolas Cruz. None appeared arrestable under Florida law. However, two of the calls remain under internal investigation.”

As color coded in the list, the most serious warning came on November 30, 2017, when a caller located in Massachusetts advised that Cruz was collecting knives and was likely to conduct a school shooting. The caller was concerned Cruz would kill himself and “be a school shooter in the making.” They believed that Cruz’s weapons were kept at a friend’s house.

TRIED, CONVICTED, EXECUTED

art-remus-ident-04.jpg Talk of “understanding why” a 19-year-old shot his former schoolmates is just fog and blather. Who cares? All we have to “understand” is who did it, Nikolas Cruz by name. A century ago he would have gone to trial within weeks, and if convicted, publicly executed soon thereafter with hymn singing and refreshments all around. As long as justice was served, anyone was free to peddle their tea time theories.

Those with a weak grip on reality wallow in ghoulish speculation as a sort of group therapy. Gossamar notions like “toxic masculinity” are the juju of our day. By the time the world outside notices their nicely varnished delusion du jour, it’s already been superseded by some other sorry fad.

Nikolas Cruz: ‘We had this monster living under our roof and we didn’t know’

PARKLAND, Fla._Nikolas Cruz was immature, quirky and depressed when James and Kimberly Snead took him into their Parkland home. But he was pleasant and seemed to be growing happier, they said.

How the 19-year-old turned into a killer still baffles them.

“We had this monster living under our roof and we didn’t know,” Kimberly Snead told the South Florida Sun Sentinel in an exclusive interview Saturday. “We didn’t see this side of him.”

“Everything everybody seems to know, we didn’t know,” James Snead said. “It’s as simple as that.”

Cruz still lived with the Sneads on Wednesday when he walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School with an AR-15 rifle and killed 17 people – the worst school shooting since Sandy Hook.

The Sneads’ son had asked whether his friend could move into their home last Thanksgiving. Cruz’s mother, who had adopted him, died of pneumonia Nov. 1, leaving him without parents. He stayed briefly with a family friend in the Lantana area but wanted to move on.
