“STRONG” RETAIL SALES???

The markets are attempting to rally on the “unexpectedly positive” retail sales numbers for April. The bullshit is getting so deep in this country, you have to wear hip boots. Even though I’m a trusting soul and know the MSM and our Wall Street economist “experts” will tell me what I need to know, I decided to go directly to the report. Here is a link in case you want the actual data:

http://www.census.gov/retail/marts/www/marts_current.pdf

Here are my observations about the “strong” retail sales:

  • Through the beauty of seasonal adjustments the actual 2.7% decrease in retail sales in April versus March becomes a .09% increase, which is rounded up to .1% by the MSM. The government drones would never use seasonal adjustments to make numbers look better than they really are. Right?
  • Even with seasonal adjustments, retail sales only went up $377 million. The subprime financing scam being run by the Obama owned Ally Financial and the other government subsidized Wall Street shysters resulted in a $783 million increase in auto sales. Therefore, retail sales excluding this government use of your tax dollars actually declined by $406 billion.
  • The MSM is crowing about the lower gasoline sales which are benefitting the American consumer. If you look at the 4 month trend versus last year, you see that retail sales at gasoline stations is down 1.1% versus last year. Let me remind you that last year was the highest average price for gasoline in history, so a 1.1% decline is not exactly a windfall to the consumer. Do you see the MSM reporting the facts on this chart?

  • The first four months of retail sales in 2013 have sucked. Overall, they are up 3.3%. Subtracting the government boosted auto sales and the increase is 2.5%. Even using the government manipulated CPI yields basically flat retail sales with 2012. Using a real inflation rate of 5% reveals that real retail sales are declining by 2.5% in the first four months of 2013.
  • If there is a real housing recovery how could retail sales of furniture, electronics and building materials be languishing in the -0.7% to 3.6% range? How can general merchandise sales (Wal-Mart, Target) be 3.4% below last year?

The fact is that real retail sales are falling. The Obama tax increases and Obamacare insurance premium increases have sucked the life out of the consumer. Gas prices have risen 10 cents per gallon in the last two weeks. The busy driving season is coming. The Middle East is a powderkeg. Hurricane season isn’t far off. Companies are cutting the hours of their employees. The savings rate is already at 2.7%. Consumers are reducing credit card debt. There are 10,000 people per day turning 65. Sounds like a recipe for strong retail sale growth. Right?

Maybe a government drone economist could chime in and explain the extreme wide variation in seasonal adjustments over the last ten years. Shouldn’t seasonal adjustments for the same month be fairly consistent over time? Inquiring minds want to know.

Adios. Thanks for everything, Admin. Really.

But I cannot abide in a place where the dishonest have taken root. Criminals are cheered? Not the world nor place I want.

I spend my life creating. If I admitted to such deeds, all and sundry would howl me down. But I am but a businessman, and not a waitress. I spend my life creating and giving to society. But the takers and criminals get applause.

I hope those of you who are applauding the crime teach your kids the same. Otherwise hypocrites you surely be.

Not for me this place.

Good luck.

Little late to the party here, but could not agree with Calamity more on the fucked up student loan system. Obviously run by the government because it is such a mess.

Have two kids who had their loans (that they were paying by automatic deduction), sold or turned over to companies halfway across the country with no notice. All of a sudden there is a late fee for missing a payment for a bill that was never sent. How would you like to have a company you never heard of start threatening you for a loan you never took out with them? As I helped my kids it appeared we were dealing with Ukrainian thugs.

It will come to the news as time passes, but good luck with it Calamity.

Well done. I wish more people, all people, would quit paying taxes. It would be the best possible thing that could happen. The fucking IRS couldn’t jail everyone, and the government would collapse without firing a shot. The best of all possible outcomes. Anyone who supports our income tax system is an idiot, or profiting from it. We have to pay and pay and pay, the criminals in Washington put the IRS gun to our head, and even use this IRS gun to target conservatives for political purposes. If this hasn’t convinced people to stop paying taxes, I don’t know what will. Fuck the redistributive politicians and our socialist government, and more power to people like you.

I read recently – Dmitry Orlov perhaps – that it will be the underground economy that will allow for any remnant of normalcy in the future.

I will redouble my efforts to leave all my tips in CASH and to use CASH at every opportunity when doing business local.

The ship is going down and if playing by “the rules” means not planning for an existence after failure than to hell with “the rules” – and I imagine the closer one is to the edge –the more irrational “the rules” appear.

And vice-versus – the more embedded within the Status Quo, the more successful an individual has become – the more likely “the rules” become just one of those prices we pay for the opportunity to succeed – even on a sinking ship.

Perspective and perception.

Llpoh complains all day long about paying taxes, our socialist redistributive government, and being a milk cow for the FSA, yet gets angry when someone avoids paying taxes which he can’t avoid or goes to jail. Anything that can bring about the collapse of our socialist government is welcome as far as I’m concerned. If I could avoid paying taxes, I certainly would.

It is morally reprehensible to pay taxes so 100 million people can sit on their asses, not work, and get paid to reproduce and vote. It is morally reprehensible to pay money into a system that invades sovereign countries and murders it’s people for no other reason than protect oil and rape resources from those countries.

It is morally reprehensible to support a government that runs up $17 trillion in debt, and promises another $150 trillion in goodies, healthcare and pensions it can’t possibly ever pay.

The economic and governmental collapse of this country can’t happen soon enough. We are way past due, and we will pay for our sins. To argue about how this will happen is silly. The sooner it happens, the better, so we can start over with the principles that built this country into something good, and not what we have now, which is tyranny and fascism.

@llpoh – why don’t you just cry for admin to ban Calamity? Her fraudulent, tax-cheating, Fed student loan defaulting comments are probably driving away readers from TBP. Isn’t that how you usually deal with your old man angst and deeply ageist and sexist hatred of young women? It is such a shame that some of us choose to spend our time arguing with you on TBP. Oh the tragedy. The horror. Too bad more young women aren’t out doing what you proscribe as good behavior for young women aka getting knocked up out of wedlock while “having fun” and then getting those perfectly legal abortions (which you wholesale support just because they are legal – being a bean counter and a man with 0 actual moral principles). This is really the crux of my problem with you, llpoh. You believe morality derives from government decree. That is BULLSHIT. Legality does not make something morally right or wrong, and neither does illegality. Well. Adios. You’ve obviously lost your spunk. You used to cry baby to ban people, now you immediately offer to leave? Pshhh. Calamity didn’t even give you a proper beat down.

@Calamity – stop celebrating. Seriously, all of your sentiments aside, the way you do your waitress tip taxes is not some form of tax rebellion. You. Still. File. Your. W2. And. 1040. And you probably wouldn’t dare to NOT do so. And the manner/amount you declare on taxes on waitressing is completely standard. So not only is Llpoh an idiot for engaging you in this argument, but you are overestimating your “coolness” for not line item accounting your tips. No fucking waitress does that, nor bartenders, baristas etc. Neither the FSA-loving Obamites nor government-hating TEA party people, so I am sorry but the way you estimate your tip taxes is not a revolution. Also – I agree with one thing that Llpoh says here – pay your fucking loans. No one makes anyone take out a loan, it is voluntary. People who default voluntary loans they chose to take out are scoundrels and dishonest. The bank’s ability to sell your loans etc is laid out in the contract. Both parties should follow the contract. If you were too young/naive/ignorant/optimistic to fully read and comprehend the loan contract before you signed then… You are just dumb. If you fully understood it, signed anyway, and now refuse to pay what you owe…. Then you are a dishonest cheat. Either way, once again you are not a revolutionary on this point either. Plenty of wannabe college students have also been too dumb to comprehend their loan contracts and defaulted. Plenty more are dishonest cheats and understood the contract but always planned to default. Sorry, but you are not that cool. Nice “Banksy” inspired meme you posted there. Banksy is cool… The girl depicted wearing a bandit mask is cool… You, Calamity… not so much.

@Calamity You are absolutely on point about the student loan fiasco and the consumer’s right to challenge the “holder of the Note”.

The Uniform Commercial Code governs all Promissory Notes – mortgage notes, student debt, credit card.

Under the UCC, Section 301 (i), (ii), (iii) ONLY the ‘person with the rights to enforce the Note’ or the “servant of the person with the rights to enforce the Note” can declare a default on the Note.

They have screwed up title on 66 million mortgages thru fake securitization, stolen $17 trillion from pension funds and are have stolen 5 million homes. And they are not done. There are 10 million more homes in the pipeline slated for foreclosures.

The same business model was rolled out for student loans and credit cards.

If a consumer pays the wrongful holder of the Note, then the consumer is liable for making payments to the “person with the right to enforce the Note.”

Paying the wrong party does NOT rightfully pay down the debt. The real “person with the right to enforce the Note” can appear at any time, and the consumer will be obligated to pay ALL of the debt.

You are smart and very correct in taking the new “holder” of the Note to court. Make them prove, by submitting evidence to the court on how they obtained the rights to enforce your Note.

If they cannot prove they obtained the rights lawfully, then the judge should issue an Order that the rightful creditor is unknown. Kinda a Quiet Title on the student loan debt.

For those who scream, “You signed a contract, you MUST pay”, we challenge you to review Calamity’s Student Loan docs and find the language that states her Note would be sold and she would not receive any of the benefits from the sale. Did they mention that the same Note would be sold to multiple parties, pledged into multiple trusts?

Also, they securitized her loan application and sold it on the global credit markets to the highest bidder. Any check arrive in the mail, issued to Calamity for a cut on that purchase? Don’t think so.

Contracts have three important components – Offer, Acceptance and Consideration. If the Offer was seeped in fraud, the elements of the fraud were not disclosed to the borrower before they signed the contract, and the consideration was paid by parties that were NOT cited on the contract, how could this be a valid agreement?

C’mon guys. Time to put down the moral hazard club. Everyday Americans are going Gault because the game is rigged so tightly in the Cronies favor.

It’s called resistance.

I wish I had Ann Barnhardt’s courage to officially call a tax strike. I commuted 45 miles to a part-time job with NO benefits for six months and have to pay $10k in ADDITIONAL taxes to the Feds. My income bumped us into a new bracket. The fruits of my labor are going to fund the tyrannical security apparatus, drones killing children and families in Pakistan and abortion clinics. They, however are going to wait for the payment. And we plan to negotiate it down to pennies on the dollar.

When you step away from the moral hazard and think critically about problems the solutions are very clear.

Resist.

Llpoh
I will be brief as possible, because I don’t know if you will be reading this.

1)- You make an appeal to the 16th Amendment. SAH’s response is all that really needs to be said;

“You believe morality derives from government decree. That is BULLSHIT. Legality does not make something morally right or wrong, and neither does illegality.”

Couldn’t state it better myself. By way of example, if the government decreed that once again slavery is legal … you would have to agree with it, if you were to remain consistent. Although, I am sure you would not. Therefore, you also, are ‘picking and choosing’ which government issued decrees you will follow. And, rightfully so. So, don’t piss and moan when someone else does the same thing.

2) Since you bring up the Constitution, I will also. There is a line in there about “the consent of the governed”. I did not consent to the 16th Amendment. I’m pretty sure even the people that lived at the time did not consent. (I believe it was supposed to be temporary, anyway.) It was a decree forced upon the people. The people have a Constitutional right to not consent. Stop complaining.

3) You self-righteous attitude about keeping laws stinks to high heaven. You have posted here about breaking speed laws. So much for that! How many thousands of laws are there in the Federal Registry? You should read Three Felonies A Day. I’ll bet you’ve broken dozens of them. And, please, don’t cry “ignorance” and compare it to a willful act of disobedience. The law makes no such distinction. You are either guilty, or not. End of story.

4)- You say, — “But I will NOT advocate crime as a means to change things.” Good for you, Mr. Sheeple, the government approves! Where would you have been on December 16, 1773, the Boston Tea Party? You would have been standing on the sidelines at best, or with the British Loyalists at worst. You surely would not disobey the law of the land!!! The American Revolution would have been stillborn had our Founding Fathers and Patriots followed your advice.

The Big Question is — which laws will you not obey? If they take away your right to own a gun … will you obey it? If they take away your right to freely assemble … will you obey it? If they take away your right to worship as you please … will you obey it? I don’t think you would obey them. Then maybe you’ll come to your senses … or be faced with the biggest ever case of Cognitive Dissonance in your life.

5)- If you really leave, either because of Calamity (doubtful, imo) or because all of us are so dishonest, then you are One Big Fat Pussy. You want us to be holy and without sin (even though you are not)? Then go to some mountaintop in Tibet, and become a monk. But, I guarantee you this; even with a congregation of one, you will soon be overcome with the Stench of Self Righteousness and Hypocrisy. At that point, come back to TBP. We love hypocrites. We’ve all been there.

Peace (whatever you do).

How many of us were writing letters to editors every week to explain his positions and document the unfair treatment by the MSM?

My point is we whine about the way things are, but aren’t willing to put our time and treasure on the line to change things when in fact we have the power – probably for not much longer, either.

@Gayle – what would Ron Paul say to Calamity?

ISSUE – No Taxes On Tips
“It is an outrage that waiters, waitresses, and other service-sector employees have to pay taxes on the tips they earn. The IRS makes an estimate of how much service-sector workers will make in tips, and taxes them on it even if the taxpayer did not actually earn as much as the IRS’ estimate!

Tips provide a substantial portion of the income of many service-sector employees, many of whom are young people just trying to make a few extra dollars to get through school, or single parents often balancing two jobs while trying to make enough to raise a family. This tax amounts to nothing more than the federal government punishing these employees for working hard and doing their jobs well.

I have introduced H.R. 3664 in Congress to end this problem. The Tax Free Tips Act of 2007 will exempt tips from federal income and payroll taxes. Ending taxes on tips will give workers an immediate pay raise, letting them keep more money to put toward things like a house or car payment, their retirement, or their own and/or their children’s education.

When you give someone a tip, you should not have to simultaneously tip the federal government.”

http://www.ronpaulforcongress.com/html/tips.html

@llpoh & calamity – key part of RP’s statement here is “The IRS makes an estimate of how much service-sector workers will make in tips, and taxes them on it even if the taxpayer did not actually earn as much as the IRS’ estimate!”. So you 2 are bickering over a non-fucking-issue because as I pointed out the estimate method used by Calamity to tax her cash tips is the standard method. Llpoh, stop sulking. Calamity, stop acting hardcore when you are just doing your taxes the exact unfair way the IRS requires.

@Stucky for once we agree -Llpoh needs to not sulk and slink away like a baby. As usual we disagree – who cares if Calamity is “hot or not” seriously you old fucks constantly objectifying and commoditizing women’s bodies makes me want to puke. May 14, 2013 2:51 pm

@Gayle – I don’t know what calamity *thinks* she is doing, but IMO from what I have read here and from my own restaurant industry experience (10+ years) estimating your tip taxes by % of gross sales is how it is done as per the IRS. So she isn’t a tax cheat. And actually, I believe studies of the way the IRS taxes servers and have found (of course) that this minimum estimate works in the IRS favor and a lot of servers pocket less than the minimum estimate the IRS forces them to pay. The IRS is like a casino, the house always has an advantage. The way the IRS has the servers set up to withhold taxes means the IRS gets overpaid on average. I don’t think Ron Paul advocates breaking the law. I also don’t think Calamity is somehow crazily breaking the law with how she does her waitress tips. The IRS has a formula for what they expect you owe from tips and they extract that amount of tax regardless of the true amount owed. Although the tax law is so complex and crazy does anyone truly know if they are 100% compliant to every tax law? But basically they have been fighting over a non issue. Calamity seems like a nice enough gal, certainly no more repugnant than Llpoh so neither one really has an obligation to leave.

@Calamity. Good idea on the “Who’s Your Lender?” for people with student loans.

There is a website called, http://www.whatliesinyourdebt.com

It requires being a member to join and receive benefits. But I understand the people who run the group are really smart and have perfected the process for challenging credit card and student loan debts in court.

They supply templates, and host conference calls where members can ask questions and geet advice specific to their issue.

You may want to check it out – perhaps will have some good tools for you to use.

Lastly, there is a book you can buy on Amazon called, “Fighting the Foreclosure Machine” which provides explanations on how to challenge the “lender” on providing evidence they are the “person with the rights to enforce the Note.”

It’s written for homeowners, but the same principals on student loans and the UCC should apply.

I’m with calamity on this one too. Except for the loans, which she should repay as they are voluntary. Plus the education will only benefit her someday.
But, like her, I don’t want to pay for politicians and fuckin freeloaders anymore either.
I’m like Bruce , fuck all the sheeple!!!
