While recovering from an injury years ago I had some time on my hands. Between various books and chapters, I watched several episodes of the HBO television series “Game of Thrones” (GoT). The show ran eight seasons from 2011 to 2019 and I found the series to be very well-produced with an impressive cast of actors and intriguing plotlines.
There are elements of fantasy in GoT as in Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” paired with echoes of epic storytelling from medieval legends like Robin Hood or King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. But what appealed to me the most in the early seasons of GoT were the gritty politics and the realistic human consequences of actions, alliances, and betrayals.
In viewing the series, one gets the feeling the make-believe Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms and the continents of Westeros and Essos may have actually existed on another universe’s timeline; but the same human interaction… the frailties, violence, sex, power-seeking, greed, and cruelty… surely occurred throughout actual history to this day.
I was skeptical of GoT at first and always looking for the “programming” HBO wanted viewers to receive. And there was some of that: Pagan gods reigned, both old and new. Honorable characters broke their solemn oaths when it suited them – some for political expediency and others to save their own lives or the lives of others. Nefarious actors thrived to the point of being outwitted and vanquished by other wicked characters. A high priestess of the “one true lord of the light” turned out to be a witch who, literally, gave birth to a murderous death shadow; and other sinister plotlines and themes as well.
At the same time, however, the GoT series revealed moments of naked honesty, surprising tenderness, and genuine humanity in even the most wicked of actors; combined with some worldly wisdom and warnings, too:

The quote above came from one of the early seasons of GoT and, we, the people, have witnessed it in action, particularly, since Covid and after the 2020 Presidential Election. We’ve seen “science” weaponized as wizards and sorceresses like former NIAID director Anthony Fauci, CDC director Rochelle Walensky, Dr. Deborah Birx, and many other “crowned” characters who conjured incantations that allowed politicians and their minions to mandate and enforce tyranny – all under the magic spell of “public safety”.
Since the “election” of 2020 we’ve watched America become a corrupt fiefdom as federal agencies like the DoJ and FBI were blatantly, and lawlessly, politicized and weaponized… even as an illicit and depraved “king” sought to disarm the citizenry and purloin the common peoples’ gas stoves, portable generators, and water heaters.
In another earlier episode of GoT, a wicked queen was accompanied by palace guards as she discussed political intrigue with one of her cunningly deceptive advisors. The advisor, a very rich and shrewd man, appeared to be withholding information as he coyly told the queen: “Knowledge is power”.
Immediately, the queen ordered her guards to seize the man. They did. She then told them to cut the man’s throat and just when the blade was at his jugular, the queen said: “Stop! I changed my mind. Take two steps back and turn around.” And the guards did exactly as she ordered.
Now, standing face to face with her trembling advisor, the queen said to him: “Power is power.”
In another scene, a prince was having a discussion with a palace advisor and referenced a nobleman who was recently beheaded by order of the queen. The advisor, seeking to make a point with the prince, asked who actually beheaded the nobleman… the queen or her guard… to which the prince replied: “The guard, of course.”
And the palace advisor replied: “Power is where people believe it is.”
Indeed. People act upon their beliefs and this is why stories rule the world. It is why totalitarian governments propagandize and censor; as these are actual manifestations of power because they help to ensure power.
Wicked spells, memory holes, and magic disappearing acts have been utilized in every kingdom since the world began; and the ensuing chaos is often just smoke and mirrors designed to hide actual tactics and maneuvers.
In warfare, for example, deception is used to fake an attack on one front so as to draw opposing troops away from another flank that will be ambushed instead.
In the Ukraine War, the chaos appears to be a global threat to the New World Order. But the propaganda is an illusion. It is the threat that self-appointed sovereigns want the plebeians to see. In reality, however, having the BRICS nations align against the West’s escalation of WWW III serves the global financial elite’s goal of de-dollarization and the economic demise of the United States.
Beneath the illusion, the kingmakers have formed alliances to centralize global structures and systems: CBDCs, international pandemic treaties, climate regulations, social justice initiatives etc., – and all in pursuit of the 17 U.N. sustainability objectives (i.e. Agenda 2030).
Therefore, in the interim, the common people must believe that two plus two equals five.
Most people trust what they think they see, and then act upon what they believe. Some yield before power to survive… even as others embrace power to thrive.
In the Game of Thrones, as demonstrated throughout history, there is no need for external or eternal truth. On the contrary, worldly power is what matters most and honor is just another strategy of the players; like a poker card to be held or released as necessary. Relativism reigns in little fiefdoms as justice becomes subject to the arbitrary whims of those who are believed to possess the most powerful alliances.
Meanwhile, the commoners toil day to day, like sleepwalkers in a bad dream.
Truth can dismantle power over time but, usually, never exactly on time.
So when there are no immediate solutions, choices still remain. Speak what is known into the void. Act courageously. Stand on what petty tyrants and their minions will not see. All else is whirling sand.
And a game without rules is called “total war”.

That scene- Power is power– was central to the entire theme of GoT which was a thinly veiled metaphor for all political systems.
Whatever is happening between the civilization formerly known as The West and the adversarial parties certainly feels like a deception. It isn’t warfare as it has been understood to be in times past, but rather destruction and death for the sole purpose of destruction and death.

I will be the first Fantasy genre nerd to point out and recommend the books. The series is called the song of Ice and Fire, the author is George RR Martin. The series is very good for those who enjoy spending time with fiction. The show runners pissed the author off so badly he quite talking to them sometime after season 3. It’s why the first 3 seasons of the show were so good and why each one thereafter got progressively worse as they veered more and more away from the source material.
Martin still hasn’t actually finished the series which is also why the ending of the show was so god awful. The show runners just slapped together season 8 and split exit stage left because they thought they had a giant movie deal to go do. The backlash from what they did with season 8 was so bad they lost their movie deal and nobody wanted to trust them after that.
Like I said if you enjoy fantasy and fiction they are worth the read even if the story is as yet unfinished.

Seasons 7 and 8 were literally a case study in how to utterly baboon fuck a series into oblivion. The writers were so inept at original thinking and logical plot planning that once the material source was done they made the absolute worst decisions in character development to the point of actually reversing the characters in a devolving state of bad decisions in writing translating to utter idiocy on the screen.
Moreover, basic military tactics and strategies were beyond the realm of fantasy fiction and borderline insipid. Cavalry charging straight into a mass formation in the night before setting the main body of the enemy and using the cav to flank is primary to the example of just how lazy the writers got and that is just a minute example of how rotten the show got in its final season.
Just watch the first 4 seasons and leave the show there.

Travel time was another spot where DnD shit the bed in the last 2 seasons. GoT was a relatively low fantasy world, yeah there was magic but not a lot and the fact that it took weeks to months for people to cross distances mattered in the books, and early in the show. Season 7 and 8 saw characters crossing the ocean and back in the span of an episode.
HBO apparently told them they could have a full 12 episode season for season 8 or even a season 9 if they needed it to wrap things up but they were in a hurry to go do a star wars trilogy which they had been offered by Disney.
Yeah PS, the sales pitch is less than it could be because George RR has taken multiple years to do the last book in the series. If I had to guess, he got so disheartened by what HBO did to his baby, that IF he finishes the series it will only be to spite them and show what it could have been. If not for that I would be a loud and constant cheerleader for the GoT books, they are absolutely a whole different level of storytelling for the genre.

I think there’s plenty of evidence for not just a creator, but for CREATORS. In the Old Testament they are called the Elohim (plural), which was purposely mistranslate by the church as God. To try to hide this fact, the church had to adopt the pagan doctrine of the trinity. That way, when Genesis has the Elohim saying LETS do this or that, (showing clearly a plurality of beings), they attribute it to the Trinity. And in the case of Jehovah’s Witnesses, since they don’t believe in the trinity, the claim that Jehovah was talking to his Son Jesus.
The fact is, that when one reads the Old Testament substituting Elohim for God, one is able to understand it much better. You will see why Jehovah/Yahweh (one of the Elohim), was a vengeful, wrathful, and genocidal maniac. The complete opposite of an All-knowing, Almighty God of love.
You will also understand why The Old Testament talks about other Gods (Elohim). They each adopted, or more than likely were assigned a nation to rule over, and were in obvious competition. Judging by all the wars throughout history, this may still be going on today.
These superior beings called Elohim in the OT, don’t seem to be merely extraterrestial, but more like transdimensional. They inhabit the fullness of reality, but limited us to a very narrow band of its spectrum. Now, why would they do that? Well, obviously to hide the truth from us so we could be easily controlled and manipulated. And they have successfully done it throughout our history with religion, their main weapon.

As far as the JW’s is concerned, sorry but no, they’re not closer to any truth. That’s what I believed at one time, which led me to join the organization. I fell in their trap when I was young and stupid. After years of studying the Bible I became convinced that it could not be God’s word, as it’s full of inconsistencies and contradictions. The JW’s organization is a cultish club where no freedom of thought is allowed. They criticize other religions, but in reality they are no better. There are many hypocrites among them who just stay in it for fear of losing their relationships with friends and family. So they stay and pretend by just going through the motions. They are controlled by fear.
Their leadership, The Governing Body, claims to be the sole channel of communication between God and man. No different that the Pope. They have a history spanning over 100 years of false predictions. They used to teach “The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life”, but after their “truth” kept changing, it became so embarrassing for them that the they decided to change it to “The Information That Leads To Eternal Life”.
They also have a lot of blood in their hands. They convinced the faithful, even little children, that it was wrong to accept blood transfusions. Many died as a result, including many little children around the world who were brainwashed with that dogma.
The so called Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses is made up of a bunch of old, deluded, arrogant men, who think that they’re God on earth. As a result, their decisions have caused untold suffering and have destroyed many lives. STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

I certainly agree with you on many points about the JWs. Yet as I said, the point you brought up about the trinity, and “god” talking to Jesus (and perhaps others) certainly IS closer to the truth then most the other Christian religions. I certainly didn’t claim it was the soul truth.
I also have big problems with the JWs being set up very mason like, having inner and outer rings of influence, and controlling it by making people jump through all the hoops to get baptized.
I also have a big problem with their doctrine of no soul. And like you think that the head folk at the watchtower have set themselves up as sole authority of doctrine, even above the elect. If even the elect can’t have differing views on doctrine, I’m not sure who should or would.
I’m actually in favor of the blood doctrine, mainly because of health reason, but that should be an individual choice. Do they actually disfellowship folk over it? Seems back when I was around the ilks they said it was a matter of choice.

They believed in an immortal soul seperate from the body. To me this is just wishful thinking.
Well conducting your meetings in a educational manner / setting, and reading the bible in depth from beginning to end, as well having many members (or theoretically all) learning how to give biblical presentations and giving biblical presentations, seems pretty studious to me, and covering the bible from front to back, doesn’t seem like something that can be faked or superficial, though you can lead a horse to water as they say.

Keep in mind that during the early days of the country (US) it is alleged that the reading level was so high (and I would contend general smarts in some aspects also) was because they used the bible from an early age as a text book.
Personally some of the most interesting times in my life was going out pioneering during my late teens with the witnesses down in WV. We ran across some interesting things back in them hills and hollers, above and beyond normal people.
As far as the soul, I don’t get that from the bible per se (I don’t have much biblical experience outside studying with the witnesses, especially during my formative years, it wasn’t till my late teens that I studied with the witnesses. Though it wasn’t talked about much, that irreligiousness didn’t necessarily preclude the existence of god), but from general observation, and experience, some personal, and an very early age at that, not to mention most other traditions having the same concept of a soul or afterlife. I have certainly listened to diverse sources since then though of a biblical nature and beyond.
What is interesting, is there was this one couple that was local here who were pioneers (special if I recall) that studied with some of the family, who the pioneers were big into astral projection before they became witnesses (not the only folk we knew who did such, there was also an old Indian shaman / sorcerer that we knew who claimed the ability, among others, and we seen evidence he could), and yet with all that experience I assume they didn’t believe in the soul because the witnesses told them there wasn’t (though they still talked about having those experiences). Yet, the witnesses condemn or warn against the practice, because it can lead to having the body taken over by demons.
Seems rather double minded to me, but that is dogma for you.
As far as blood transfusions, it is up to the parents to determine suitable medical care, though I suppose it seems you are more comfortable with state (especially) and medical actors determining the sex of your child (or yourself), or whether they live or die, or take some shot for the good of the society?
Are parents prefect? No, but they certainly in most cases have purier motives than external players, I have no doubt of that. And there certainly is no small risk taking blood transfusions (something I have some professional experience in the matter). There is also several options, such as blood substitutes, and banking blood for emergencies.

I only saw several episodes into the 2nd season of GoT and have since been told to go to at least season 4 to see the dragon wars, but I just don’t have the time. Yet even in the limited episodes I viewed, there were many other parallels I could have drawn had I decided to make my above article longer.
For example, I thought it was interesting how the kingdoms communicated with each other via ravens carrying written notes. The characters would even say things like: “Bad news. We’ve received a raven from King’s Landing”. Sort of like, in modernity, when folks say: “I saw a tweet” or “Bad news. I just got an email…”
In GoT, the ravens carried valuable information upon which important decisions were made. And some ravens were “censored” as they fell by arrow from the sky.
Also, kings and palace advisors had networks of spies reporting on everything from troop movements to the sexual preferences of enemies.

For your information, I have read and studied the Bible many times. I used to be a believer, but the more I read it the more I realized that it could not be God’s word. This would become evident to anyone with half a working brain who’s willing to conduct such a study. The problem with most “Christians”is that they don’t even read it. They may read certain passages that make them feel good, and if they ever come accross something that’s against their doctrinal beliefs, they simply look the other way pretending it doesn’t exist. Paul supposedly wrote that Letter to Timothy about 2,000 years ago. He didn’t send it to anyone living today, fool! They were all wrong because they were led to believe that the end of the world was imminent back then. It didn’t happen. So those scriptures are absolutely MEANINGLESS!
You are wrong about that. Paul wrote about the last days. John the Revelator and the prophesies of Daniel identify the ‘last days’. The 10 kingdoms will rise from the ashes of the world system that is collapsing now. If you don’t wake up you will get a fresh mark on your hand or forehead soon. There is a better way. In 1 Tim 4:1 Paul speaks of ‘later days’. In 2 Tim 4:3-4 he writes about the ‘time that is coming’. In 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul writes:
‘Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of perdition’
2,000 years is 2 days to the Lord. Paul encountered the resurrected Jesus on the road to Damascus. Before that Paul was murdering Christians. What happened? Magic mushrooms?

Studying the Bible without the Holy Spirit wont get you anywhere. In your situation, read C.S. Lewis ‘Mere Christianity’ and Lee Strobel’s ‘Case for Christ’ first. Then decide. Then read the Bible.
