QUOTES OF THE DAY

“There is only one kind of shock worse than the totally unexpected: the expected for which one has refused to prepare.”

Mary Renault

“Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.”

US Government Releases Redacted “28 Pages” Missing From 9/11 Report

Tyler Durden's picture

Unleash the revisionist history. Congress released on Friday a long-classified report exploring the alleged ties of the Saudi Arabian government to the 9/11 hijackers.

The missing 28 pages from the 9/11 report begins as follows:

“While in the United States, some of the September 11 hijackers were in contact with, and received support from, individuals who may be connected to the Saudi Government…”

The “28 pages,” the secret document was part of a 2002 congressional investigation of the Sept. 11 attacks and has been classified since the report’s completion. As CNN reports, former Sen. Bob Graham, who chaired the committee that carried out the investigation and has been pushing the White House to release the pages, said Thursday he was “very pleased” that the documents would be released.

The pages, sent to Congress by the Obama administration, have been the subject of much speculation over what they might reveal about the Saudi government’s involvement in the attacks masterminded by terrorist Osama bin Laden when he led al-Qaeda.The pages were used by the 9/11 Commission as part of its investigation into the intelligence failures leading up to the attacks.

A telephone number found in the phone book of al-Qaeda operative Abu Zubaida, who was captured in Pakistan in March 2002, was for an Aspen, Colo., corporation that managed the “affairs of the Colorado residence of the Saudi Ambassador Bandar,” the documents show.

Osama Bassnan, who the documents identify as a financial supporter of two of the 9/11 hijackers in San Diego, received money from Bandar, and Bassnan’s wife also got money from Bandar’s wife. “One at least one occasion,” the documents show, “Bassnan received a check directly from Prince Bandar’s account. According to the FBI, on May 14, 1998, Bassnan cashed a check from Bandar in the amount of $15,000. Bassnan’s wife also received at least one check directly from Bandar.”

The top two members of the House Intelligence Committee cautioned that much of the information in the newly released pages were not “vetted conclusions.”

Is The Fix in?

Trump is no dummy.Trump lead

Because he did not pick Newtie.

Had he done so, he might as well have put Romney at the head of the ticket and retired to Mira Lago. The selection of Pence shows that while Trump is no Libertarian, he’s not another “bipartisan” – and so Born to Lose  – Republican.

With Pence, Trump makes his victory in November more rather than less likely – as would not have been the case with someone like Newtie as his Better Half.

This is smart politics, regardless of our (as Libertarians) approval of his politics.

Trump needs the snake handlers and tongue-talkers – just as Hillary must have the Millennial Redistributionists and Social Justice Warriors.

EXCLUSIVE: France ‘Suppressed News of Gruesome Torture’ at Bataclan Massacre

I strongly suggest that you not eat or drink while reading this. I also suggest that you wait a bit until after eating before reading.

HEAT STREET EXCLUSIVEA French government committee has heard testimony, suppressed by the French government at the time and not released to the media, that the killers in the Bataclan tortured their victims on the second floor of the club.

Police witnesses in Parliament said they vomited when they saw the disfigured bodies.

Wahhabist killers apparently gouged out eyes, castrated victims, and shoved their testicles in their mouths. They may also have disemboweled some poor souls. Women were stabbed in the genitals – and all the torture was, victims told police, filmed for Daesh or Islamic State propaganda. For that reason, medics did not release the bodies of torture victims to the families, investigators said.

But prosecutors claimed these reports of torture were “a rumor” on the grounds that sharp knives were not found at the scene. They also claimed that maybe shrapnel had caused the injuries.

Question of the Day #2 (Stucky requested)

I was talking to an “intellectual” this morning who was espousing the need to fully disarm the public so that police can better do their job.

Question is, what words like ‘intellectual’ (which used to mean intelligent thinking person, but now means giant moronic douche) have changed from positive to negative words in your lifetime?

Caught On Tape – CNN Reporter Cut Off Air As She Critiques Hillary Clinton

So did CNN intentionally pull the plug on its reporter, or was it just a convenient coincidence.

Fed Cornered: Core CPI Jumps Near 4 Year Highs As Rent Rises At Fastest Rate In 9 Years

If the government is admitting inflation is running at a 4.8% rate over the last three months, then you can double that to get the real rate. With wages growing at 2.5%, do you understand why most of the country is pissed off as they become more impoverished every day?

When you see unemployment supposedly below 5%, unemployment claims at three decade lows, inflation running at 4.8%, corporate profits near record levels, Wall Street reporting billions in profits, and politicians expounding upon our resilient economy, why is Janet Yellen keeping rates at .25%?

If these economic figures were true, the Fed should have short term rates at 2% or higher.

Could it be the emergency level interest rates have nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with enriching her banker benefactors and the corporate establishment?

Tyler Durden's picture

Just as we warned, the gas price ‘base effect’ is pressuring consumer price indices higher (Energy +1.3% MoM – up for 3rd month in a row) but even Core CPI rose more than expected (+2.3% vs 2.2% exp) back near its highest since April 2012. Shelter costs rose 0.3% MoM (but 3.5% YoY – the highest since July 2007), along with increases in education, medical care, and airline fares also sent consumer prices broadly higher. Between surging PPI and this, The Fed is increasingly cornered (and as we nopted last night, running out of excuses).

“We’re starting to see upward pressure on the inflation numbers,” Jim O’Sullivan, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics Ltd., said before the report. “It reinforces the case for the Fed to resume tightening, though they’re highly risk averse right now.”

Core Cpi back near cycle highs…

What is your stance on global warming? Frankly, I’m just glad that a government office, one government office, anywhere was abolished.

BRITS CUT CLIMATE DEPARTMENT IN POST-BREXIT VOTE SHAKE-UP. THE MOVE COMES MONTHS AFTER MASSIVE FLOODING IN THE UK
By Meaghan Lee Callaghan Yesterday at 3:58pm

With the new government forming under Conservative PM Theresa May, the Department of Energy and Climate has been absorbed into a larger, expanded Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
As Theresa May comes into power as prime minister of the United Kingdom, shuffling department leaders are moving forward with the disbanding of the Department of Energy and Climate (DECC).

The DECC will now be incorporated with other departments under the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Some British organizations and politicians are worried about what this means for the UK’s commitment to fighting climate change, as the country still has not ratified last year’s Paris Agreement.
