Happy New Year: Don’t Be Fooled By the Orthodoxies of the Messengers

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country. …We are governed, our minds are molded, our tastes formed, our ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of. This is a logical result of the way in which our democratic society is organized. Vast numbers of human beings must cooperate in this manner if they are to live together as a smoothly functioning society. …In almost every act of our daily lives, whether in the sphere of politics or business, in our social conduct or our ethical thinking, we are dominated by the relatively small number of persons…who understand the mental processes and social patterns of the masses. It is they who pull the wires which control the public mind.

– Edward Bernays, “Propaganda”

Edward Bernays (1891 – 1995) was a famous pioneer in the field of public relations and is, today, often referred to as the Father of Propaganda. Perhaps Bernays became thus known because he authored the above quoted 1928 book titled with that very term. He was actually the nephew of the famed psychopathologist Sigmund Freud and was very proud of his uncle’s work. More than that, however, Bernays accepted the basic premises of Freud towards the use of emotional manipulation of the masses through advertising. It was, in fact, Bernays, who changed the term propaganda into “public relations”.

Are Performers Stupid?

Guest Post by The Zman

Are actors and actresses stupid?

Are performers dumber than normal people?

Like most people, I just assume this is so, because actors tend to say stupid things when not following a script. The actress Meryl Streep took to the stage at some awards show to say Donald Trump gave her the sads. I’ve watched it a few times trying to figure out what it is she was trying to communicate. Streep is a great actress so it was well choreographed, but it contained nothing more than some hyperventilating about imagined bogeymen. My take away from watching it is that Mx. Streep is not spending her free time working math puzzles.

Even more obvious examples were on display at the Waddle in Washington this past weekend. Ashley Judd went on a deranged rant that suggested she needs to be in a nervous hospital again. Madonna of all people was carrying on about respecting women and committing acts of treason. Madonna, like all other performers, degrades herself for a living. Other than being a cautionary tale, she should stay out of any discussion about respecting women. Yet, this was lost on her and her fellow performers.

Hollywood’s Screen of Lies

by Uncola via TheBurningPlatform.com

On Sunday, January 8, 2016, while waiting for the 10PM local news, I surfed through some channels and landed on NBC as the actress Meryl Streep was speaking.  It was during the Golden Globes and I caught the tail end of her speech after she won the Cecil B. DeMille Award.  This once-in-a-lifetime award is an honor conferred by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”.

As Streep was speaking, she appeared to have had the entire room entranced, even moving some of the Hollywood stars in the audience to tears.  As the cameras panned over the brigade of befuddled, bespectacled, bearded and bare-legged clowns, you could see them overcome by raw emotion before Streep’s heartfelt words.  Paradoxically, her delivery was not meant to be comedic.  As I watched the scene unfold in complete disbelief, I thought to myself:  “This isn’t a parody.  It is real. It isn’t an act.  It is actually happening”.

Referring to President Elect Donald Trump, Streep said:

Trump Fires Back At “Overrated” Meryl Streep Over Golden Globe Criticism

Tyler Durden's picture

In the latest highly politicized Hollywood event, last night’s Golden Globes took aim squarely at Donald Trump, when Actress Meryl Streep delivered an emotional speech railing against President-elect Donald Trump, without actually mentioning him by name. while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 74th annual Golden Globes on Sunday. The actress referred to the time Trump imitated a disabled New York Times reporter on the campaign trail, and said that particular, real-life performance broke her heart.

“But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good — there was nothing good about it — but it was effective and did its job,” Streep said of Trump’s imitation of reporter Serge Kovaleski, who has a congenital condition affecting the joints. “It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.”
