Incentivizing Censorship: A Snitch in Every Skull

Anti-war academic Dr. TJ Coles is at the center of two raging controversies over freedom of speech – and one overarching assault on human rights

An informational iron curtain is coming down across the West, and its architects are determined to make examples out of those who refuse to pick a side.

Our Democracy™ has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for pollution of the information ecosystem, and the Thought Police are standing by to halt rogue infodemics in their tracks, lest the people lose trust in their institutions.

Dr Tim Coles, a freelance writer and postdoctoral researcher until recently at the University of Plymouth didn’t realize he was in their crosshairs until he found himself locked out of his university email account in October. Tech support was no help; department staff refused to talk to him, closing ranks and sending him a threatening email demanding he cease contact. Clearly, he had violated some unwritten law. But what?

The chain of emails that had culminated in his removal only raised further questions about why an apparent stranger whom Plymouth has refused to name – a university employee, Coles suspects – had complained about his writing for Australian magazine Nexus to his old PhD examiner.

In a Kafkaesque turn, the complaint lacked a single concrete accusation of wrongdoing that Coles could defend himself against, instead equivocating around familiar “conspiracy theorist” tropes. At any rate, no one had thought to consult Coles, perhaps believing him to be a disgruntled ex-student trading on his old university email rather than a researcher whose work at the university was funded by an outside trust and had nothing to do with his political writing. A Robot Stole My Job!

A ROBOT STOLE MY JOB!

What would normally require a crew of six personnel has been effectively replaced by an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV); this author has mixed feelings losing one of his previous contract jobs to a drone.

An unmanned surface vessel with solar cells, camera, GPS, weather monitoring sensors, and a capability of carrying a payload of 154 pounds is shown operating in a publicity photo.
A Persistent Uncrewed Surface Vehicle from SeaTrac: SP-48 Data Collection and Communicatin USV (https://www.seatrac.com/), capable of carrying various payloads, including Inertial Navigation Systems (INS).

The coolest job on planet earth has become a distant memory for this author.

Astronaut?  Nope.

Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition photographer?  Nope.

National Geographic photographer?  Nope.

Admin for TBP?  No comment.

New Zealand to tax farm animals’ flatulence…

Via Sovereign Man

by Simon Black

This Friday we’re focusing on ridiculous stories around the world that will make the inflation problem worse.

New Zealand is proposing an absurd climate tax on farm animals (which will be inflationary on food prices). California is creating all sorts of insane new rules on businesses, which will make it more expensive to do business (also inflationary).

And courts in the Sue-nited States of America have established a precedent that is bound to drive insurance premiums much higher.

The geniuses in charge have really outdone themselves this week.

The Glorious Flop of New Zealand Virus Control

Via Brownstone Institute

An infuriatingly consistent aspect of the mainstream media’s COVID coverage was their determination to prematurely credit a country with a wildly successful set of policy interventions.

While there has been no track record of universally accurate predictions or expectations, the desire to claim victory as far back as spring 2020 has led to subsequent embarrassments as trends change.

Naturally, New Zealand is no stranger to such untimely praise, with the BBC in July 2020 doing an in-depth look at how New Zealand became “COVID free.”

Of course, it was because New Zealand “…locked down early and aimed for elimination” and achieved “effective communication and public compliance.”

This is really the whole problem in a nutshell, isn’t it?

New Zealand To Sink Entire Country Into The Sea To Stop Single Case Of COVID

Via The Babylon Bee

Tyranny is Indistinguishable when used by Kings or Career Politicians

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

What is going on in New Zealand and Melbourne is the complete rejection of every principle of liberty, which has degenerated into a tyrannical coup. These are the very same actions by those governments that sparked the American Revolution. We have to wonder about this forecast of Socrates about rising civil unrest on a global scale. I had assumed it would be because of the debt collapse and rising taxation.

Multiple people killed in shootings at two New Zealand mosques

Via Marketwatch

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand — Multiple people were killed in mass shootings at two mosques full of people attending Friday prayers, as New Zealand police warned people to stay indoors as they tried to determine if more than one gunman was involved.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described it as “one of New Zealand’s darkest days” and said the events in the city of Christchurch represented “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.”

One person was taken into custody but it was unclear if there were other people involved, Police Commissioner Mike Bush said. He said anybody who was thinking of going to a mosque anywhere in New Zealand on Friday should stay put.

These international borders have become “no rights zones”

Guest Post by Simon Black

On June 15, 1215, King John sat in a field in Runnymede, England, surrounded by angry nobles.

His Barons—the big landowners throughout England—had rebelled and seized London, forcing King John to sign an agreement guaranteeing certain rights to the people of England… and restrictions of his power.

This agreement was called the Magna Carta. And it would become one of the most important documents in history.

Centuries later in 1678, Charles II was King of England. Like many kings, Charles was terrible with money.

And when he ran out of it, he started demanding extra taxes from his knights, and imprisoning those who refused to pay.

Tsunami Warning Issued After Powerful 7.8-Magnitude Quake Strikes New Zealand

I hope all of our TBP New Zealanders are safe. Let us know how it looks from your perspective.

Tyler Durden's picture

A major earthquake whose, initial reported magnitude of M7.5 was initially lowered to M6.6, only to rise up to M7.8 in the latest USGS estimate, struck central New Zealand northeast of Christchurch just after midnight, or 12:02am local time on Monday, (1102 GMT Sunday), the U.S. Geological Survey said, generating a tsunami that hit the northeast coast of the South Island.

The quake – which had a shallow depth of just 10km like the recent destructive earthquakes to strike Italy – was centered centered 46km from the town of Amberley with about 2,000 people, and 70km from the town of Kaiapoi with 10,000 residents, according to the USGS. It was felt throughout most of the country.

The quake took place 91km from the town of Christchurch which was struck by a powerful earthquake back in 2011. At least 185 people were killed and hundreds injured after the 6.3 magnitude quake hit the town. The quake shook the captial city Wellington, where sirens were heard.
