Dear Sir/Ma’am,

Before you read any further, please understand that the following paragraphs come from a place of intense devotion and loyalty to West Point. My experience as a cadet had a profound impact upon who I am and upon the course of my life, and I remain forever grateful that I have the opportunity to be a part of the Long Gray Line. I firmly believe West Point is a national treasure and that it can and should remain a vitally important source of well trained, disciplined, highly educated Army officers and civilian leaders. However, during my time on the West Point faculty (2006–2009 and again from 2013–2017), I personally witnessed a series of fundamental changes at West Point that have eroded it to the point where I question whether the institution should even remain open.

DEMORALIZING

Back when I was a lowly cement mason I used to watch the weather pretty regular because there is not much worse that putting 2000 square feet of fresh mud on the ground right before it rains. Watching the weather was a futile endeavor in my part of the country because the weather people cant reliably tell me what happened yesterday let alone what’s going to happen today.

I eventually gave up watching the weather but not before fantasizing about how great it must be to have a job where you can be wrong and make mistakes 60% of the time and not only get paid but receive raises and bonuses.

BANK RUNS, BAIL-INS? IT COULD BE TIME FOR YOU TO BAIL OUT!

I found the last section of the article “Are U.S. Banks About to Stress Out?” particularly interesting.

It’s not discussed in the article but I would assume that bail-ins are going to be associated with some kind of bank holiday similar to what happened in Cyprus and Greece as opposed to being a singular event. Either way I’d encourage people to maintain a stash of small denomination bills outside of the banks and credit unions. A couple of months worth of expenses in 1’s, 5’s, 10’s. Throw some twenties into the mix but sparingly as change for 20’s, 50’s and 100’s will likely be in high demand.

If you have debt, payments on that debt will still be due on time even if the banks are closed so keep a couple months worth of debt payments in the larger notes on hand as you should still be able to purchase money orders and mail them in on time as verified by the post mark on your payments.

A REFRESHING CHANGE OF PACE

I’ve been frequenting a little blog for several years now that offers a daily break from the doom porn and ugliness of the world. It’s mostly pictorial with little in the way of printed word or comments.

The owner travels some obscure innerweb back roads to source most of this stuff and I think it will suit most TBP regulars eclectic tastes. Hot chicks with Freckles and Cabin Porn are regular features. The MORNING MINDFUK picture I posted this morning came from his weekly OPEN ROAD FRIDAY feature.

MAKIN’ HORSEPOWER

I love this video and it’s be a while since I posted it.

This is a representation of how much fuel flows into just one of eight cylinders in the engine of a Top Fuel Drag Racing Car. At first the engine is just idling then it simulates a roughly four second run under full throttle then shut down.

A Top Fuel engine will burn about 12 gallons of Nitromethane between start up and shut down. Nitro costs $100 per gallon. At full throttle the engine will produce between 8500 and 10,000 horsepower. The average passenger car produces around 150 horsepower.
