American Idols

“The similarities between sport fandom and organized religion are striking. Consider the vocabulary associated with both: faith, DEVOTION, worship, ritual, dedication, sacrifice, commitment, spirit, prayer, suffering, festival, and celebration.”

— Daniel Wann, Sports Psychologist

Since the earliest days of man, contests of athletic prowess, politics, and religion have been inextricably linked. This relationship goes way beyond surface level comparisons or similarities in linguistic terms. Sporting events — whether it be the Greek Olympics, the Roman Coliseums, or the Mayan ballgame — were not purely for entertainment purposes alone: they served as vital rituals to enforce societal order and cohesion. A ritual is quite simply an ordered process in which specific acts are repeated in a specific manner, whether secular or religious in nature. When rulers held these sporting spectacles, they served not just as a useful distraction, but also as a tacit display of the sovereign’s wealth and power.

“Absolutely Killed”: Trump Throws Flag At NFL And Nike For Lack Of Patriotism, Supporting Kaepernick

President Trump has weighed in for a second time on the NFL’s decision to support Nike’s endorsement of Colin Kaepernick, tweeting on Wednesday: “Just like the NFL, whose ratings have gone WAY DOWN, Nike is getting absolutely killed with anger and boycotts. I wonder if they had any idea that it would be this way? As far as the NFL is concerned, I just find it hard to watch, and always will, until they stand for the FLAG!”

Uncola Questions A, B, C, & D: The Trumpening Effect

In the past few weeks we have witnessed many of Trump’s sworn enemies, at the very least, taking some heat in the media or their business/careers, and in the extreme, completely collapsing in Harvey Weinstein fashion.

Let us count ten of the ways:

1.) Al Franken – Sex

2.) George Takei – Sex

3.) Kathy Griffin – Jobless in USA

4.)  Bill Clinton – Sex – Four more accusers

What’s Wrong With The NFL

Guest Post by The Zman

Pretty much the only reason I ever owned a television or had a cable subscription was so I could watch sports. Growing up, we only have a few channels and they were often so fuzzy you could not watch them. Television was just not a central part of my life as a kid, so I never developed the habit. I grew up on sports, so as I got older I did what everyone else did and got cable and a television. In truth, I bought my first TV after a girl I was dating said she would not come over to my place if I did not have a television.

Doug Casey on the Recent NFL Protests

Via Casey Research

Justin’s note: It’s one of today’s most controversial topics. Everyone’s talking about it. Even Donald Trump’s getting up in arms over it…

I’m talking about the recent NFL protests.

I still can’t help but wonder if people should even care about this. So to make sense of this, I called up Doug Casey…who I knew would have an interesting take on this matter…

So Much Winning: NFL Ticket Sales Plummet Nearly 18% After President Trump Calls Protesting Players Out

Via Breitbart

The NFL has learned in one week what it took Hillary Clinton almost two years to find out, and that is, more people agree with Donald Trump.

Sales of NFL tickets at the online ticket re-seller site TickPick have cratered, dropping off 17.9 percent which is a number far worse than the average Week 3 drop off, according to the Washington Examiner.

The NFL sales at TickPick dropped 17.9 percent this week, nearly double the 10.8 percent drop-off during Week 3 in 2016.

Patriotism Is A Two-Edged Sword

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

UPDATE: Louisiana state Representative Kenneth Havard informed me that he voted against the taxpayer subsidy to the pro-football team. Being tenacious, he is still after nixing the taxpayer subsidy. Hats off to him.

I sometimes wonder if America’s greatest threat is the population’s hyper-patriotism. The bulk of the population is now at work shutting down the NFL players’ First Amendment rights, and none of the incensed censors are capable of understanding that it is they, and not the NFL players, who are attacking the U.S. Constitution. We have been through all this flag business before, and federal courts have ruled for the protesters who burnt flags, wore them on their clothes, whatever. Yet, here we go again.

Cliché Series # 4: What We Do Is Who We Are

By Doug “Uncola” Lynn via TheBurningPlatform.com

The impending winter makes fall a busy time. Even rainy days are spent finishing off an area of my basement before snow flies. Unknown until recently, Yellow Jacket wasps had been illegally invading, and illicitly breeding, behind the exterior border of my home; even creating a hive in the wall so large it filled a 30 gallon trash bag.  Once I noticed the excessive activity of the winged terrorists outside, I soon discovered the interior drywall had become discolored and soft. I speculate within another one or two weeks they would have burrowed through. This would have been extremely unpleasant, especially had it occurred in the middle of the night while we inhabitants were asleep, unsuspecting.

TAKING A PISS ON THE FANS

This is all you need to know about NFL football players and their bullshit protest narrative. Odell Beckam, a lowlife narcissistic scumbag punk, impersonates a dog taking a piss in the end zone. I think it fits pretty well. He represents all the feral dogs roaming our streets killing, raping, and robbing. And pissing on the fans who paid $200 to watch this disgusting display.
