BURNING BOOKS IN A BRAVE NEW 1984 WORLD – THE AGE OF CENSORSHIP

In Part 1 of this article, I explored how Huxley, Orwell, and Bradbury foretold the use of technology by totalitarians to subjugate and control the masses. Now we move on to a currently hot topic – censorship.

“Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth.” Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Nick Tyrone on Twitter: "This Venn diagram isn't possible. “1984” is set in an authoritarian future in which all pleasure is repressed; “Brave New World” in one where people are provided with

Censorship

“There was always a minority afraid of something, and a great majority afraid of the dark, afraid of the future, afraid of the past, afraid of the present, afraid of themselves and shadows of themselves” Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451

Fahrenheit 451 Censorship by Riley Curry

“There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.” Ray Bradbury

The primary theme of Fahrenheit 451 is censorship. In Bradbury’s dystopia, burning books was the principal method of censorship, directed by the government, but generally supported by the masses. A form of self-censorship developed, as the dullards, intellectually lazy, and willfully ignorant, preferred books to be burned so they felt that would put them on a level playing field with the critical thinkers and intellectually curious minded.

It always comes back to the government doing everything in their power to keep the masses apathetic, ill-informed, entertained, and distracted, to ensure their continued control over society. Bradbury believed the masses would go along with censorship because they already had television, radio, and fast cars, with vacuous programming, loud music, and unceasing advertising creating over-stimulation and distraction for the populace. They were too distracted to read a book, learn, think critically, or question the authorities.

CALLING OUT THE CANCEL CULTURE

Submitted by Hardscrabble Farmer

Middlebury College is one of the most expensive schools in Vermont. It features a safe, bucolic, and well-maintained campus along with a sizeable endowment for a school of its size. During the heat of the BLM movement when it seemed that statues of historic figures were being toppled almost daily, a small group of administrators decided to strip the name of Mead from the marble Chapel that bore it for over a century. They created a narrative that the man responsible for its construction, a former Governor of Vermont and alumnus, John Mead, was a -gasp- eugenicist. The statements that they made at the time gave the impression that the decision was made only after thoughtful deliberation, a fiction that was quickly exposed by members of the Mead family.

The actions, impulsive and reactionary, were not to go unanswered and last year a suit was filed by another retired Vermont governor on behalf of the family of John Mead.

This story is one that reflects the current zeitgeist of Progressive Post America. Claiming current standards should apply to historic personages and that shaming, deplatforming and censorship is the only suitable solution for imagined transgressions of another time. Had they not been so dishonest in their communications with family members, and the press it is likely that they would have gotten away with it. Their responses were equally fallacious, claiming that no records of any agreement between Mead and the College existed and that the removal of the name from the hallowed shrine was purely academic rather than a breach of contract.

The pendulum of history is wont to swing both ways. Perhaps in some small way there will be an accounting for these transgressions and the school will be one of the first to reverse course when politically correct decisions are made in haste.

Exclusive Video Interview: Former VT Governor On His Challenge To Middlebury College’s De-Naming Iconic Mead Chapel

James Douglas: “They took the name off the building without even knowing for whom the building was named.”

Early one morning in September 2021, while most of Vermont’s Middlebury College campus was still asleep, workers arrived at the Mead Memorial Chapel. Tools in hand, they wrenched the rustic wooden sign bearing the Mead family name out of its niche above the entrance to the 105-year-old historic house of worship. It broke as it came out, exposing the bare brick wall behind it.

After the deed was done, the school pointed to Governor John Abner Mead’s “instigating role” in the Vermont eugenics movement as the reason for ripping his family’s name off  the iconic chapel he endowed.

The Cancellation of a Civilization

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

Few Americans understand that their society has been revolutionized.  America is no longer what it was.  Wherever you look everything has been overthrown.  I will illustrate it with three articles from the City Journal, published by the Manhattan Institute.  Two are by Heather  Mac Donald and one is by John O. McGinnis.  Heather Mac Donald explains what has happened to museums (Winter 2022) and to the medical profession (Summer 2022).  John McGinnis (Spring 2022) explains what has happened to the legal profession.  Both writers are good at their task and have done their homework.  My account is a poor second to reading their articles.

Cancel Culture’s War on History, Heritage and the Freedom to Think for Yourself

Guest Post by John W. Whitehead

“All the time—such is the tragi-comedy of our situation—we continue to clamour for those very qualities we are rendering impossible… In a sort of ghastly simplicity we remove the organ and demand the function. We make men without chests and expect of them virtue and enterprise. We laugh at honour and are shocked to find traitors in our midst. We castrate and bid the geldings be fruitful.”—C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man

There will come a time in the not-so-distant future when the very act of thinking for ourselves is not just outlawed but unthinkable.

We are being shunted down the road to that dystopian future right now, propelled along by politically correct forces that, while they may have started out with the best of intentions, have fallen prey to the authoritarian siren song of the Nanny State, which has promised to save the populace from evils that only a select few are wise enough to recognize as such.

As a result, we are being infantilized ad nauseum, dictated to incessantly, and forcefully insulated from “dangerous” sights and sounds and ideas that we are supposedly too fragile, too vulnerable, too susceptible, or too ignorant to be exposed to without protection from the so-called elite.

Hollywood Legend Kurt Russel TORCHES Lightweight Journalist Over Gun Control

Guest Post by Hailey Sanibel

Americans are tired of Hollywood’s blatant doublespeak when it comes to guns. Alec Baldwin is now the most notorious anti-2A nut – this despite the fact that he’s killed more people with a firearm than most of the entire population of legal gun owners combined. Matthew McConaughey is another; he goes on rabid gun rants despite having been made a gajillionaire being featured in action-packed movies loaded up with guns and ballistics of all kinds.

Thankfully, not everyone in Hollyweird is a raging leftist fanatic. Brad Pitt’s politics aside, he has proudly taken a stance that he’s owned guns since Kindergarten.

Disney Decides To Be The Next Casualty Of The Culture War

Via The Blue State Conservative

I think the Disney Corporation hasn’t been paying close enough attention to the culture war. That war hasn’t been going very well for the left, yet Disney somehow thinks it can win where others have failed. It has decided to engage in the war for our children.

Last year, schools across the country informed parents that what was taught to children (or how they were groomed) was none of the parent’s business. They would continue to teach critical race theory (CRT) and normalize gender dysphoria – and the parents had better stay out of it, or else.

Loudon County Virginia became the poster child for nationwide radicalism in schools. They were letting boys, pretend to be girls, to facilitate sexual assaults, on school property. They even went so far as to have a father arrested, for attempting to bring to public light that his daughter had been raped in a school bathroom by one such transgender “girl.”

Cancel Culture Calling: Will Pat Sajak Hold Off Pearl Clutching Wokesters?

Via The Blue State Conservative

For fans of the long-running game show Wheel of Fortune, one thing you’ve never seen or read about is friction between host Pat Sajak and hostess Vanna White. Not only are the two on good terms, they’ve been close friends for over 40 years in an industry that is notorious for its backstabbing and internal squabbles.

But that’s not stopping the woke mob from coming after Sajak for a harmless joshing he gave to White the other day.

For those who haven’t seen it, the duo tends to end each show with friendly banter after the completion of the competition. On Wednesday’s show, an opera singer was the winning contestant bringing in quite a haul, and the back-and-forth between White and Sajak focused on the contestant’s occupation.

Joe Rogan shows us the real purpose of cancel culture

Via Off-Guardian

Joe Rogan has just been cancelled. Again. It’s not about covid “misinformation” this time.

No, now he’s a racist.

Some enterprising young mind combed through 13 years and hundreds of episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience, and cut together around twenty instances of Rogan using “the n-word”.

Whoopi Goldberg vs Roseanne Barr, It’s Great to be a Democrat

Via Blue State Conservative

Not sure why we even worry about Hollywood celebrity types, but they often “open mouth and insert foot” almost every day. Whoopi Goldberg recently on “The View” made some horrendous antisemitic remarks. There are calls that she should be canceled. Others feel she should get a pass. Thoughts turn to others that have fallen into the same situation. A few years back, Roseanne Barr is one that comes to mind.

Let’s make a little comparison and see how these two stories differ.

The Pressure Campaign on Spotify to Remove Joe Rogan Reveals the Religion of Liberals: Censorship

All factions, at certain points, succumb to the impulse to censor. But for the Democratic Party’s liberal adherents, silencing their adversaries has become their primary project.

Glenn Greenwald on Substack, January 29, 2022.

Glenn is absolutely one of the most important voices out there right now. Consider subscribing to his substack please.

Below is a taste of the article:

To start:
American liberals are obsessed with finding ways to silence and censor their adversaries. Every week, if not every day, they have new targets they want de-platformed, banned, silenced, and otherwise prevented from speaking or being heard (by “liberals,” I mean the term of self-description used by the dominant wing of the Democratic Party).

For years, their preferred censorship tactic was to expand and distort the concept of “hate speech” to mean “views that make us uncomfortable,” and then demand that such “hateful” views be prohibited on that basis. For that reason, it is now common to hear Democrats assert, falsely, that the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech does not protect “hate speech.” Their political culture has long inculcated them to believe that they can comfortably silence whatever views they arbitrarily place into this category without being guilty of censorship.

Censorship by Algorithm Does Far More Damage Than Conventional Censorship

Via Ron Paul Inst

Journalist Jonathan Cook has a new blog post out on his experience with being throttled into invisibility by Silicon Valley algorithmic suppression that will ring all too familiar for any online content creators who’ve been sufficiently critical of official western narratives over the last few years.

“My blog posts once attracted tens of thousands of shares,” Cook writes. “Then, as the algorithms tightened, it became thousands. Now, as they throttle me further, shares can often be counted in the hundreds. ‘Going viral’ is a distant memory.”

“I won’t be banned,” he adds. “I will fade incrementally, like a small star in the night sky — one among millions — gradually eclipsed as its neighbouring suns grow ever bigger and brighter. I will disappear from view so slowly you won’t even notice.” Continue reading “Censorship by Algorithm Does Far More Damage Than Conventional Censorship”

Kulldorff Deleted: Famed Epidemiologist and Early Opponent of Lockdowns Banned by LinkedIn

Via Brownstone Institute

Just a few days ago, I linked to an epic article in the history of the pandemic response. It was posted April 10, 2020, less than a month after lockdowns. The legendary Harvard epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff, whose impeccable academic record includes writing statistical packages used the world over to assess vaccine safety, could not find a publisher for a piece opposing lockdowns. Finally, he decided to post it on his LinkedIn account.

The posting of this article was an important moment in the modern historiography of lockdowns and the response. It became very easily the most important English-language dissent against the unprecedented and catastrophic response deployed by states all over the world. LinkedIn made this possible because it allowed its users the freedom to post their thoughts.

Curated News that isn’t Censored…

Guest Post by Dr. Robert Malone

Well, at least not yet.

Joe Rogan CANCELED over Robert Malone?!

It used to be lauded in society that when you fall down, you get back up. When you fail, you try again. When you get a game over screen, you hit continue. The idea of persistence and perseverance was desirable, but now, after a generation of “everyone gets a trophy” -the idea of failure is incomprehensible.

When you’ve lived your entire life being told you are special and can do no wrong, what do you do when you enter the real world only to find out you are average at best? The answer is, you tear everyone who is better than you down. You rig the game. You change the rules.

After all, you are special, you deserve it, just like mommy and daddy told you.

Honestly, the message in the above video is not all about “me” and Joe Rogan. It is about censorship and propaganda. We just happen to be the poster children right now, as the censors seem to be particularly triggered by us. I guess that means we are “on target…”

FOURTH TURNING 2022 – BAD MOON RISING (PART THREE)

In Part One & Part Two of this article I laid out how those in power have used the power of propaganda and the psychology of fear to weaponize a flu to further their Great Reset agenda, while ensuring an economic and financial collapse through the issuance of trillions in unpayable bad debt. In Part Three of this article, I will examine how the civic decay in our society, created by the ruling class, will coalesce into a bloody firestorm of death and destruction during the remaining years of this Fourth Turning.

“One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship.”George Orwell, 1984

“The masses never revolt of their own accord, and they never revolt merely because they are oppressed. Indeed, so long as they are not permitted to have standards of comparison, they never even become aware that they are oppressed.”George Orwell, 1984

There had been a theory discussed a few years ago regarding the nature of Fourth Turnings alternating between externally focused and internally focused. It is more about the key drivers, as all Fourth Turnings are impacted by domestic and foreign influences. Even though the sample size is small, this Fourth Turning appears to be following the alternating pattern. The American Revolution was driven by conflict with a foreign power (Great Britain), with another foreign power (France) tipping the scales in favor of the patriots. The Civil War was almost entirely a domestic internal conflict, with Great Britain not fully supporting the Confederacy, and tipping the scales in favor of the North. The Great Depression was created by global central bank machinations, with World War II almost entirely fought on foreign soil, leaving the U.S. as the unchallenged leader of the free world after 1945.

All factions, at certain points, succumb to the impulse to censor. But for the Democratic Party’s liberal adherents, silencing their adversaries has become their primary project.

Joe Rogan interviews Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Aug. 6, 2019, roughly six months before he endorsed the Vermont independent for president.

American liberals are obsessed with finding ways to silence and censor their adversaries.
