The Meltdown Of The Old Order Foretells A New Crisis

Authored by Josiah Lippincott via American Greatness,

This week, the left-wing organization Swords into Plowshares began the process of melting down the statue of Robert E. Lee that stood in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The images from the ordeal contain deep spiritual significance. A profound sense of foreboding washed over my heart when I saw the bronze face of the Southern hero, glowing red hot moments before annihilation.

What the Leftists did to the statue of Lee is a vision of what they want to do to the rest of the country. The destruction of a nation’s symbols, the elimination of the reminders of its past, is a key part of the process of the destruction of a nation and its people.

The Left is correct: symbols have power. The destruction of a symbol, too, is an act of power. The statue of Lee that stood outside the University of Virginia and became a cultural war flashpoint during the Unite the Right rally in 2017 was not simply a Southern icon.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — In a meaningful moment that was years in the making, the bronze statue of Robert E. Lee that once stood in Charlottesville gave one final, solemn thumbs-up as it was melted down in a blazing furnace.

Vladimir Putin as Robert E. Lee

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

As readers know, I often make reference to Putin’s forbearance, that is, to his tolerance, patience, and self-control. I admire Putin’s forbearance which persists despite Putin never receiving any recognition or credit for it.  My concern is that Putin’s forbearance does not serve him or Russia well.  The reason is that the Western world no longer recognizes or values the moral code that once defined Western civilization. Today in the Western world there are only two values–money and power.

It has been a long time since any American or European military leader said anything resembling what Robert E. Lee told the soldiers who comprised the Army of Northern Virginia:

“We make war only upon armed men, and we cannot take vengeance for the wrongs our people have suffered without lowering ourselves in the eyes of all those whose abhorrence has been excited by the atrocities of our enemies, and offending against God to whom vengeance belongs.”

ARE PUTIN AND XI GRAY CHAMPIONS?

“Long, long may it be, ere he comes again! His hour is one of darkness, and adversity, and peril. But should domestic tyranny oppress us, or the invader’s step pollute our soil, still may the Gray Champion come” ― Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Gray Champion

Image for post

“Who is this gray patriarch? That stately form, combining the leader and the saint…could only belong to some old champion of the righteous cause, whom the oppressor’s drum had summoned from his grave.” – Nathaniel Hawthorne

There is a misunderstanding regarding the Gray Champion of this Fourth Turning. The misunderstanding revolves around thinking there is only one Gray Champion, they are hugely popular, always do the right thing, and are universally admired for their leadership traits. Nothing could be further from the truth. In previous Fourth Turnings, there have always been multiple Gray Champions, often at war with each other, who were not popular or necessarily good men.

What they always are is single-minded, tenacious, ruthless, and intent on winning at any cost. Their followers are inspired, and their enemies despise them. There is no middle ground when it comes to opinions about Gray Champions. They generally don’t fight the battles, but shape the strategy, inspire the troops, or mobilize the citizenry to action.

Another Day, Another Hoax, and Another Black Eye for Our Pathetic MSM

Guest Post by PF Whalen

There’s nothing wrong with fiction. From Homer to Hemingway, and from Shakespeare to Shaw, storytellers have entertained us for millennia. There’s also nothing wrong with non-fiction, aka factual narratives. Non-fiction books are some of the most successful on the market, and documentaries by the likes of Ken Burns and Martin Scorsese can be both entertaining and informative.

When it comes to news, however, we expect our journalists to be focused strictly on non-fiction; factual narratives. Whether we read the New York Post or the New York Times, turn on Fox News or NBC News, we do so to become informed. To understand reality. If we want fiction, we can pick up a Steinbeck novel or turn on Netflix. But the further we progress into the 21st century, and as our so-called journalists lose credibility on a seemingly daily basis, the more difficult it is becoming to distinguish between the two.

Why We Remember Lee

Via GenZConservative

why we remember lee

Introduction:

Due to all of the controversy surrounding Robert E. Lee over the past few years, I thought it would be good to write about why we remember Lee and why it is important to remember Lee the general in addition to Lee the scholar.

Current politically correct orthodoxy would have you believe that General Lee was evil. That he was man only worth remembering as an evil figure, or perhaps a tragically misguided figure at best. I think that view represents a gross misunderstanding of history and I am sure many others  would agree.

Up until a few short years ago, Lee was heralded as a paragon of virtue. While growing up, I was taught that he and Washington were the two best examples of Southern gentlemen to have lived. Based on everything I’ve read about them, I’m inclined to agree; sentiments like theirs are accurate and are why we remember Lee.

FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATES TRYING TO ERASE HISTORY

Written in August 2017 when the leftists first started pulling down statues. It applies perfectly again today. My conclusions stand.

“True patriotism sometimes requires of men to act exactly contrary, at one period, to that which it does at another, and the motive which impels them the desire to do right is precisely the same.” Robert E. Lee

I consider myself a student of history. I’ve always been fascinated by the personalities who drove events throughout history. I probably would have been a history major in college if I didn’t feel the need to make enough money to support myself and my family. I chose a business major and decided studying history would be my hobby. Over the years I’ve taken a particular interest in the Civil War. You could even call me a Civil War buff.

Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia into open ground.

WINTER IS COMING (PART TWO)

“Don’t think you can escape the Fourth Turning the way you might today distance yourself from news, national politics, or even taxes you don’t feel like paying. History warns that a Crisis will reshape the basic social and economic environment that you now take for granted. The Fourth Turning necessitates the death and rebirth of the social order. It is the ultimate rite of passage for an entire people, requiring a luminal state of sheer chaos whose nature and duration no one can predict in advance.” – Strauss & Howe – The Fourth Turning

In Part One of this article I laid out the reasons for Gray Champions arising to meet challenges during crisis periods in history. We are ten years into this Crisis and I have been pondering where we go from here. The plot line of the Game of Thrones has opened my eyes to the fact there isn’t just one Gray Champion during a Fourth Turning. During the Civil War, Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee were Transcendental prophet generation representatives of the Confederacy. Abraham Lincoln and William Tecumseh Sherman were Gray Champions of the Union.

These were men who would do anything to further their cause, from ordering thousands of men to their deaths on Cemetery Ridge, to burning down cities, to suspending the writ of Habeas Corpus, and seceding from the Union. They were destined to brandish their terrible swift swords in achieving total indisputable victory. But, we know only one side could win.

During the World War II/Great Depression crisis FDR is known as the Gray Champion who took drastic measures on the economic front with his New Deal and sent 16 million young men into battle on a scale never seen in history. Douglass MacArthur commanded many of those men in battles to the death across the Pacific. What is less discussed is the fact Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin were also members of the Missionary prophet generation and were the Gray Champions of their nations.
